I wanted to give my root plants the best chance of growing, so I switched to a fertilizer substrate! That was the main reason, but I will admit every single piece of fallen plant, uneaten food or fish waste showed up really easily on the white sand, but the black it isn’t as noticeable, so that’s definitely a bonus!

Tank looks amazing, Finn I’m sure is quite pleased and you gave me the inspiration I needed to redo my man Chicos tank. He has two large fake decorations in there right now…one he enjoys a lot, the other he flares his fins at from time to time when it gets in his way 😂. It’s going to be replaced with some spider wood methinks

I love the look of my natural tank, and he sure loved the change when I did it! Spiderwood is definitely one of my favourite woods so I’m sure your betta will love it too.

I’m also curious about the world wide ban…(I won’t say ‘globe’ because well, that’s scientifically impossible!!)

It was a couple years ago I think, moss balls were tied to zebra mussel infestations! There was a time the entire ban my area extended to all plants and fish, the fish department of pet stores basically shut down. The moss balls were the main culprit for bringing them in though, so they were banned! I know it started in Canada but some other countries did ban them too from what I heard - I think Canada still hasn’t brought them back, I haven’t seen them in forever!

did you rinse the substrate before adding it?

Yes I did! I gave it a quick rinse, but it’s still very cloudy after 😅

@@BetterBetta thanks, some say to rinse and others say not to. How long before you put your betta back in the planted tank?
