Many people aren't aware of the huge debt all of New York City owes Bette Midler for her key role in saving a great number of community gardens throughout the boroughs when a certain mayor-who-will-not-be-named was planning to take the city land back to "develop." Out of that came the New York Restoration Project, a not-for-profit still going strong. A brilliantly gifted performer, who in the process of become a celebrity has remained a genuine human being. Thank you, Ms. Midler, for your great genrosity! :-) (And... her advice to young performers to observe people without judging cuts right to the heart of things.)

Highest moment of the entire night. Bette was incredible and outrageous and eccentric that I laughed cried and knew she was thee light Broadway needed on the 2017 Tony's.

She's so great! And so wise what she says, it's a very hard job all artists do and takes also a lot of self discipline! Congratulation to her Tony!!❤️

Oh Bette, she's a darling. It's mind-blowing how humble she still is after all the success. It shows how real and good-hearted she truly is. Love her so much. I wish she knows how much she means to us. It's very unlikely that I ever get a chance to meet her - so unrealistic I won't even dream about it. But I wish I could thank her somehow. She has brought me a lot of comfort and joy. And I'm quite a new fan. It's remarkable really - she made quite an impact on me. I'm happy I found her.

Thank you Bette. I have loved you since I was 12 and saw A Star is Born. IMO You should have won Oscar. Your comments about eccentrics and loners, community, crafts, color, and your first teachers helped and inspired my soul today, when I really needed it. Thanks for that too. Congratulations. I'm off to watch Hello Dolly!

This is exactly why I am a fan of hers on Facebook. She is great at communicating exactly what she believes and she is one person who, along with George Takei has not trouble calling out people like those currentl in the White House.

wonderful but a big big boo to the Tony awards for not allowing them to do a remote performance of the title number. Bette didn't want to do it on the Tony stage because of the staging and acrobatics and concerns of not only doing the number justice but the casts safety. what does missing the chance to showcase Bette and honestly raise the ratings. Hopefully with all the press and prestige and bucks this show has generated will compel someone to tape it for PBS or a Tonight Show performance.
