Holy cow I wish I knew "Set Matte" was a thing. So much easier than creating numerous pre-comps with Stencil Alpha layers in them.

Tip: if the "Roughten Edge" is not noisy/detailed enough: Try adding 2 x "Transform" effects - one before "Roughen Edge", set "Scale" to 200%, and one after "Roughen Edge" where you contra scale to 50%. (300% and 33.3333% for event more effect)

You could also use the property of "layer styles" in your matte use the option of inner shadow. Layer styles give you the option to direct the light, feather it and grain it.

Man you did not only teach me how to get a quicker grain texture, you also clarified some issues I have with set matte. So you need to rasterize the layer. I was wondering why it wasn't working if you use a solid layer as a track matte. Thank you bro :D really helped :D

Roughen Edges seems to have changed in 2021. Any thoughts on how to make it still look like this?
@vincentthibault35342 жыл бұрын
Hello Ben, thank you so much for all of your videos, always inspiring and helpful I have a question regarding the quality of the display/render. Right now I am using this shading grainy technique on a comp of 1080*1920. However when I'm on 200% viewing display like you on the video, the result I get is very blurry and not defined like yours. Any suggestion? If you already talked about this topic in a video I am happy to get the link and watch it! Thank you so much, Vincent
@nadinec7585 Жыл бұрын
This effect works well only on small Comps. I also had 1920x1080 and it was blurry. I set the Complexity to 10, Edges Sharpness to 10, but the texture was still uneven.
