Remember in the S4 opener that the cab driver had an Albuquerque air freshener and was eyeing Saul the entire time. Turns out Saul was right to be extra paranoid. The awkward bench scene was a veiled threat and he's most likely going to come back at some point and try to extort him.

@@DNephilim I didn't say Skyler's a taxi driver: I said she works in taxi dispatch. I'm not overreaching: it's an actual line of dialogue from Br Ba S05E15 (when Walts asks Ed about her). Now, there's more than one taxi dispatch company servicing a city with half a million people, so it's not by any means guaranteed it's the same one. So, to sum up: 'works in taxi dispatch' is not the same as 'is a taxi driver'; and I'm not saying something I'm imagining: I'm referring to an actual line from a Breaking Bad script that states it as a fact.

This season of "Better Call Saul" takes place in 2004, four years before Jimmy meets Walter. All five seasons of "Breaking Bad" take place between 2008 - 2010.

When you finish BCS you could watch The Sopranos if you did not see it yet. Vince Gilligan was inspired greatly by that show and Bryan Cranston said that there would be no Walter White without character of Tony Soprano. Great writing that had influence on many series and cinematography, after every episode you have feeling like you just seen a feature film.

While Nacho knows Mike, I really don't think that at this point he knows that Mike is involved with Gus. So Lalo asking about a "Michael" who's part of Gus's crew, it's possible that Nacho genuinely doesn't make the connection.

And it was shown that the real reason for the labs inclusion was for mike to build a greater relationship with werner, to show Mike that he can still make connections even in this line of work. And the fallout of that drove Mike and Lalos arc for the following season. It wasn't filler.

Blowing someone away is one thing. Leaving someone in the dust is a similar thing. Blowing someone in the dust is a very different thing that I wouldn't recommend. There's a time and place for that, and it's better when dust is left out of the equation entirely.

This season has a streak of episodes on-par with Breaking Bad's uninterrupted streak in the latter half of its final season. The ramp-up is impeccable. Also, I want to give a particular shout-out to "The Guy For This," (which in the season lineup might not get the praise it deserves for coming before the legendary streak) which is in every way a connecting/setup episode, but I think it's one of the very best of its kind in the series. I remember finishing the episode as it aired, and thinking "Every SINGLE scene of that episode was a banger."

Now that the Werner Ziegler arc is over, you can appreciate how it adds meaning to Mike's story in Breaking Bad. In Half Measure he told Walter about how he regrets not stopping a scumbag who murdered his wife; now you can imagine how it pained him to kill Werner who loved his wife dearly. Then, in Full Measure Mike is tasked with executing Walter but gives him the benefit of one last phone call, much like Werner. Not to mention, Werner also shares a name with Werner Heisenberg, from whom Walter derived his alter ego.

Gus definitely did the "stepped on" drugs deliberately just for this episode. That's why it was Nacho who told Lalo about it, Nacho is working for Gus, and the whole thing was a set-up to cover up the super lab under the laundry.

The “stepped on” product was a result of the order given by Bolsa himself to buy from local suppliers to keep profits rolling in. I think it was recent enough to still be present on the market.

I personally really like BB and BCS but I guess I can see where the people who think that BCS' first few seasons are 'boring' are coming from. They're not as packed with the same amount of action, lethality, stakes and thrills as BB. It just depends on what people want from the show I guess. And if they want something different, that's fine I guess. But BCS has something which BB doesn't have as much of: it is one of the most character driven shows I've ever watched and that is where it ultimately shines compared to BB which is more plot driven. I mean, it also makes sense considering we already know what happens to a lot of the characters since we watched them in BB and for some of the other ones we can make a good guess like with Werner when he talked to his wife. The thing that makes the show so interesting is seeing HOW it happens. Watching the trainwreck unfold in front of your eyes. A classic tragedy.

Said iterally the same thing myself. BB had plot stakes from the very start (cancer, meth cooking, captured victim). There was always this life or death element hanging over them in one form or another. In the first couple seasons of BCS the stakes are not that Saul has cancer or he’s gonna get murdered every episode. It’s based on the personal dynamics of the characters, and the tension of what the will compromise within themselves. Personally I think that’s much harder to get right than say the character had lingering death chasing them from day one. Now not saying BB was bad in hindsight, but I am starting to see they perhaps took some easier routes to audience engagement with that show (action, violence, constant villisnd thrown at our “hero’s”).

I think of the opening scene as a reverse image of Breaking Bad’s “Say My Name.” That was Walter White, dominant and exuding control, browbeating someone else to acknowledge his alter ego’s name, in the wide open desert. Whereas in this scene it’s someone else in control trying to get ‘Gene,’ submissive and trying to avoid acknowledgement, to admit his former alter ego’s name, in a city/mall setting.

The problem is that Jimmy has already made his choice. He's not Jimmy anymore, he's Saul. But Kim hasn't decided yet, her whole insides protest against it, but it attracts her. There is a rebirth

Honestly after seeing everything that’s happened and assuming they don’t botch the final season I will say I like Better Call Saul even more than Breaking Bad. They took what made that show special and even improved on it in ways. While at the same time making truelly its own thing. It’s every bit as well crafted as the original show. It just doesn’t rely on pure violence and action as much. It’s more about the internal struggles of its characters rather than being more heavily plot driven (like cooking meth, cancer, etc).

It's really funny that the entire premise of Better Call Saul it's to see Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman. I remember when the show started I was soooo eager to see the sleazy lawyer that we know but little by little I started to fall in love with him + Kim (I will forever say it: it's one of the best written and acted characters of the breaking bad universe and of general TV shows). So, I remembered my desesperation with season 1 to see him changed to Saul and this show is soooooo good that when it finally happens (basically in the finale of season 4) I was as shocked and speechless as Kim. This is one of the best prequels I've ever seen. We know what happens with him and we are going there wheter we like it or not but I feel it's going to be awfull and not peaches and fun as I originally thought

I don't know what series you plan to watch when you'll finish this fifth season of BCS, but if you want another marvelous study of characters, I think you should give 'The Americans' a try. It's a very underrated show but it's one of the best series of the past 10 years. Check online the general plot, I think you may like it.

I appreciate how BCS was intended to be a standalone show, but I've always wondered how the writers intend for viewers to understand how Jimmy ends up at a Cinnabon in Nebraska without recounting the events of BB? You are looking at it from an american pov. In europe the fifth season was streamed directly on Netflix, one episode per week usually one or two days after Amc aired them in the States. So it's already on Netflix in this part of the world.

My only critique of this show is I found Chuck SO intolerable I literally couldn’t watch the show. I tried and got partway through season 2, twice, and then gave up on it. Now I’ve just watched much of it through reactions. It was the only way I could push past that point I kept getting stuck. For the record I do have legal access to the show that is paid for. I just couldn’t stomach Chuck. But I think you’re supposed to hate him.
