They were able to use the tape in the bar hearing, because the rules for evidence are far looser than in a civil or criminal case. Chuck mentions that to Kim when she first tells him she's going to try and suppress the tape. That makes her say bingo, because her and Jimmy plan to build their defense around the tape as well, and it shows Chuck and Howard haven't realized how easily Jimmy can spin it.

Which is why they were having the pissing contest over the language of the tape in the pre prosecution meeting with prosector. Kim was trying to make it look like the defense was going to try and downplay the tape and/or the contents on the tape. Chuck and Howard were fighting to get the defense to admit the damaged property was a cassette tape. But ultimately, Kim and Jimmy always wanted it on the record, they just wanted to steer Howard and Chuck in the wrong direction. Which worked, because one of the first thing Chuck asks Jimmy when they start talking about the tape during the bar hearing, is if this is the moment Jimmy tries to claim the tape as spurious.

Never even considered that, great catch. I thought it was being able to use the pictures they had Mike take. Which is probably also true, but not nearly as significant

@@SteveNathn yeah, the pictures were definitely part of the plan to paint Chuck in a crazy light. It all worked together. Getting Rebecca there was to show the board (and us, the audience, who sorta play a proxy role to the board as we have been seeing and hearing the evidence for multiple seasons), that the condition had nothing to do Rebecca. They got Chuck to finally let his subconscious take the wheel and say the quiet part out loud so there was no doubt he shared blame in the whole situation.

This is one of my favorite episodes is the show. It’s not as dramatic as the other episodes, but it just sets up so many new things.

under rated episode, I think it gets overshadowed because it follows up Chicanery, which is probably the most iconic episode of the show other than Bagman

This is one of the most important episodes of the season. You need some context: by this time , it's been about more than 2 years of yhe show's airing. You don't feel how slow the show was because you watched BB/BCS back to back but not only we had to wait a full week between episodes but we had to wait years for a new season. So by this time, you may be forgetting that this is a prequel and that no matter what happens, Jimmy will become Saul and this episode is a MASSIVE reminder that "Saul Goodman is going to happen, o matter what". I remember social media, everyone was freaking the hell out XD

They never really knew how many seasons they would get, so they could only plan ahead 1 or 2 seasons at a time. It wasn't until season 5 that AMC was ready to give them as many as they wanted, but they didn't want more than 5 and finally agreed to do season 6 and make that the end. So every season they put things in to plant the seeds for Saul, in case they had to end the show, where they could plausibly write Saul into it to be the Saul we know from Breaking Bad.

Gus picks the location for the super lab and Mike shows up talking about pouring concrete. Foreshadowing in this show is crazy eh?

There's another channel I watch where the commenters like to joke about "the turning point of the show" (these jokes were mostly about Breaking Bad), but everyone know that "Chicanery" is THE turning point of *this* show. There's pre-Chicanery, and there's post-Chicanery. That commercial is prime evidence. I love the shocked look on Kim's face after she watches it 🤣 I'm not quite sure what's she's thinking!

IT was done in post, smearing the lens with vasoline or whatever is not as clear and the scene had certain things in focus and certain things were increased contrast as well. Actually rather complex to pull off well

R.I.P. Mark Margolis (Hector Salamonca). He was a great actor. Yes, BCS has much better storytelling and writing than BB. In BB, the "muscle" characters were 1 dimensional with few lines and no emotion. BCS dives deep into WHO these people really were. The characters have much more emotion. That's why it's a better show overall.

So far I don't think it's better than breaking bad but I am not done with it yet there is a lot of characters backgrounds and I like that a lot but I can't say it's better yet, maybe because I am so hooked on the Jesse Walt character dynamic and the way Saul was in breaking bad, but we still have a long way to go with bettwe call Saul so it can only get better
