@UmbrellaGent

@@jackthecommenter2768 The younger eye is less "wrinkled," as if, when you look ver closely, which gives it a more glistening appearance at a distance. But the biggest difference is still how the light hits the eye, and how the skin around the eyes shapes them. Some old people have very young, bright looking eyes despite their age exactly because the skin around the eyes is tighter. Also, the older you get the less moisture your body produces, so the eyes are affected too.

They kind of did a similar thing with Gus when they showed the flashback to when he met Don Eladio and Hector killed Max. The yellow Mexico filter really hid his aging. Someone made an edit without the filter and you can really tell a difference.

Here they’re clearly showing front and centre that not only is Jimmy not intimidated by Walt and Jesse, he was actively scheming, trying to move their whole operation along because participating in wrong doing is at the heart if his character. I gotta say, I think after El Camino...Aaron Paul evolved the character to the point where it was really hard to play "pre-trauma" Jesse again. Obviously the kid had been through some shit at this point, but he's still got the "hardened criminal" way of carrying himself that he just didn't have at this point in the story. Far less animated, a little more sure of himself, less desperate looking. Even from the first few frames of his appearance the way he delivers the "Where ever the hell that is..." and sorta shifts his weight backwards doesn't feel like the fiery, wide-eyed kid Jesse still was at this point in the story. I think Paul is a great actor and it clearly would be difficult to try and rewind a character who you developed over the course of ten years back to a particular point in their timeline though, especially after giving the performance he did in El Camino as a way to put the character to rest. I didn't really notice until this video, but it's not just that Aaron Paul is older he carried himself a bit differently in this scene than he did back in 2009.

plot twist he timetravelled to try and reshape the events of breaking bad, he now knows all about heisenberg before even heisenberg knew himself, the original young jesse was assimilated by this future jesse during the leap in spacetime and this explains how he looks aged. Walter White just attributed the sudden change in appearance to the huge stress this meth business was putting on his former student and now partner in crime.
@Mrreebo
@Mrreebo Жыл бұрын
I feel the same way about Bryan Cranston. Each time he has shown up as Walter White since Breaking Bad ended, he has seemed meaner and more cynical. The bit with Jesse and Walter in El Camino made him seem like an unforgivable jack-ass. The scene with Saul and Walter in the Vacuum Cleaner basement in BCS made him seem cartoonishly evil. You could argue that it was through Jesse or Saul's perspectives with the addition of hindsight, but he has never felts as complex as he did in Break Bad. It's like Bryan Cranston is slowly leaning into playing Walter as more of a caricature the further removed form Breaking Bad he becomes.

@@MrreeboIt's true, i didnt noticed it until you mentioned it, Walter at this point was bad, yes, but he had still this teacher-like personality, and here we can see him more like a full season 5 Heisenberg "Put that glass down or you are dead" vibes
@noelfletcher1149
@noelfletcher1149 Жыл бұрын
This is also a reply to all of the replies this comment has: I think the problem with these actors seemingly playing the wrong versions of their characters is probably because they aren't preparing well enough. Aaron Paul said that he watched the episode of Breaking Bad that would be most relevant to El Camino to get back in Jesse's headspace at that point. I think he should've done that with earlier episodes in Better Call Saul and I think Bryan Cranston should've done the same. I know it seems foolish of me as someone who doesn't act to tell emmy-winning actors what to do, but as a musician, I've long disliked artists and actors refusing to listen to/watch their material afterward because they're up their own ass about how well they know it already. I think these actors came into these flashback scenes too full of themselves. If I was directing this RV scene, I might've done what Troy does in Community when he asks the actor playing him trying to do the "La Biblioteque-a" rap and said to Aaron Paul, "Let me ask you something: do you hate doing this? Do you?!" (The irony here is that Community actors are known for not watching the show, especially Donald Glover)

Outstanding work. Sadly, no amount of CGI will can make this scene work because of Aaron's acting. I don't know if he forgot that this scene took place before El Camino, but he's acting like a cold hardened badass, when he should be an immature kid you wouldn't take seriously. I mean, at this point he just met Jane, Combo is still alive. Literally his most traumatic experiences so far were getting beaten up by Tuco and losing his house. He even had a website that stated "MILF'S!" as his main interest and "The STREETS, YO!" as his education.

You can make sense of it if you just accept that this scene takes place really late at night/early in the day and Jesse is just really tired in this scene.

It's not just their faces he actually fixed Jesse's VOCALS as well. Seems not many noticed this. The original the voice was a bit off since Aaron Paul's voice got a bit deeper as he aged .... and it worked it sounds like the young Jess again! his voice was the one thing throwing this off. GREAT JOB

I just realized they used this scene to explain a detail in the episode "Better Call Saul" that I always had an issue with. In BB, when Walt and Jesse go to pay Saul they come with the amount of money he was about to ask for when they talked about expecting to be paying less than 10k. It'd be odd to bring that much money without being given a price before. At 2:12 they talk about the 80k and that Saul is expecting them to bring it. Maybe the writers always knew that what was said during the off scene convo in the desert in BB, but it's cool to see attention to the small details as always

Jesse looks old af, yet somehow Walt looks the same. Let's not forget that, Bryan Cranston is the oldest out of the 3, he is on his mid 60's, yet he looks EXACTLY the same as in Season 2 of Breaking Bad.

i can’t express my gratitude towards gould and the production team for not using de-aging technology, they knew that bryan and aaron would be more than capable of encapsulating the mannerisms of their respective characters. plus, regardless of how much effort and how many resources are applied, it always looks vaguely artificial.

Great work. I'd love to see the scene from "Point and Shoot" where Lalo forces Gus into the lab and Gus talks into camera. Gus's younger look from BB makes him look far more innocent. Lalo doing that to a young Gus would REALLY seem like Gus is screwed.

I think even if just Jesse's voice wasn't so deep here it would have gone a long way too.. He just feels and sounds like El Camino Jesse here lol. But I'm of two minds about it, trusting the audience to understand that people age, this is just the way things are, we must accept them, - it's understandable, and seems a way to also respect the actors Vince is bringing back to work with, as they are. But on the other hand, this tech - at the airing of this episode in 2022, it's not in it's infancy enough that it looks like total shit, and it adds the consistency that you are already trying to capture to bring the story full circle, so why not just take advantage of that? I don't know. But most people talking about how noticeably old Jesse feels here is more of a distraction than de-aging him would be, I think. Or maybe Vince just gave up on trying to alter actors appearances to fit the timeline after the El Camino controversy with Walt. Either way, hats off to the person who made this because they did a great job!

I have a feeling there will be a very extensive fan edit of the entire series at some point to make age a little more consistent. Even if it’s not NEEEDED, that would still be pretty cool. I do however appreciate the show’s faith in the fanbase to not be overly concerned about it. They could’ve easily made those tweaks themself, but felt that the performance is what really mattered.
