Michael, if you ever read this, I’m 42 now, used to be a huge Smallville fan, my girlfriend and I would buy the VHS box sets and eat them up with Buffy and Alias, a year late, being from France. Those were our favorite young adults shows. I’ve watched a lot of your interviews along the years, and I know you feel differently now, but I remember that after Smallville, a part of you was tired and maybe even hurt, to only be recognized or famous because of that show, despite how hard you worked and how many other projects you were involved in. I remember you looking sad, sometimes even upset about it. So please let me tell you this. I’m a diplomat now, traveled to 80 countries around the world, don’t really look like a nerd, more like a suit, but I am. I’ve been buying around 20 comics from all houses, every month since I was 13, and read every Superman story there has been for the past 30 years. Watched every movie, live action or animated. Every cartoon. Everything. And never, EVER, has there been a better Lex than yours. Maybe it sucked being mostly known for one role, but you’ve played one of the biggest comic villains of all time, and you were the best at it. Still are. No one will ever come close, I think. So when you feel down or think « Urgh, Smallville again... », know that some people out there who are huge comic book and cinema fans, and really know their shit, think you were one of the greatest villains of all time. Isn’t that better than being known for plenty of roles, each of them being so so? For many of us, as one of the biggest characters of the title that sold the most in comic book history, you’re untouchable. Not many actors can say that. Love from France.

My favorite section was Bob's thoughts on fame. "They don't know me. They'll never know me." It perfectly expresses why I'll never understand people who desire popularity. It's lovely to hear that from an actor once in awhile. Bob seems like a smart, realistic guy who appreciates what he's earned, and that's refreshing.

I don't agree with this bit, how an actor behaves and treats his fans outside has an impact on their work. Christian Bale hates fame and cos he's a bit weird I love his work less. Same for Brandon Flowers, I love him because he is a good person, if he was horrible to fans I would never buy his music or follow him. Fame is always with you no matter the project and your fans are why you get the big bucks remember that!
@atticusstephenson2895
@atticusstephenson2895 2 жыл бұрын
@@Twod1980 I think you can want privacy and still be good to your fans as a celebrity. The problem is, people who are fans of something or someone feel entitled to their time. If I saw a famous person at a restaurant and wanted to approach them, I'd wait for them outside after they were done eating and say hey I'm sorry to bother you, I just want to let you know how much your work means to me, I appreciate you and what you do. If you want a picture or autograph, feel free to ask. But if they clearly are busy or just aren't having a good day, you gotta respect and accept them if they say I'm sorry, but I gotta get going. Famous or not, we're all human beings and we aren't owned by anyone or owe anyone anything other than polite/respectful interactions. But polite/respectful doesn't mean you get what you want either.

I met Bob Odenkirk around 2010, while working at Trader Joe’s in LA bagging his groceries. I hadn’t seen breaking bad or Saul yet, but I was into Mr Show. He had his son with him, super cool guy. We discussed David Cross some, & growing up in Georgia where David is from. I’m now a super huge Breaking Bad fan and it blows my mind that I met him once.

What he says about being cynical is so relateable to me, I feel that tension all the time and never realized that's what it was, a real eye opener to hear him talk about it. I constantly feel like if I actually say what I think, people will think I'm a dick because they don't have my perspective.

I loved the chat about your dogs taking care of you. I'm not a dog person myself but one of our cats, when i was a teenager, would absolutely go around the house and round us all up for bed when it got too late. Didn't matter what crap you thought was important at midnight, she'd nag the crap out of you until you chilled out and went to bed. She was fantastic. I love it when she visits me in my dreams sometimes 😻

I'm a HUGE Odenkirk fan, since the Ben Stiller Show!! It's been such a treat to see how his career has morphed over the years...such an UNEXPECTED treat! Realizing from the Ben Stiller Show I had also seen him earlier on SNL in bit roles when he was a writer there, to MR. SHOW (which to me is one of the ultimate trifecta of sketch comedy--Mr. Show, Monty Python, and Kids In The Hall)!! Mr. Show. Been raving about it since it first aired, and it's awesome that a whole new crowd of people are realizing how present Odenkirk has been as a comedy LEGEND, even though he's recently made a name as are dramatic actor. I can't tell you how it felt for an old fan like me to see him in the film "Nobody". Especially since I used to be in a band called "Nobody". Lol No joke...

I like all of your interviews but thought this one felt so natural and easy and could feel Bob open up more and more as the time progressed. However, that's not what had me looking for a place to write. I wanted to say that the fan letter you read at the end had me sobbing, and I wanted to send a little anon stranger love to the man who wrote. I don't know if this message will ever reach him, but I don't think telling his daughter about the baby was a mistake. Losing a child is part of their family story - not just the writer or his wife's. I wish much healing and love to all of them and I'm grateful to Michael for being there for them, for me and all of us.

Found this channel after the most recent Tom Welling episode and I am so happy I found this and I have just been binge watching everything! Your views on life and mental health have constantly helped me and has made me feel good at times. I know commenting on this might seem weird 2 years later; I resonated with Bob's cynicism but resonated more with your view on all this confidence you gained at some point in life. I was always this worried and scared kid with anxiety, depression, and ADHD and someone gave me this confidence boost to go get a degree and become someone and I wouldn't let anything stop me, I got the degree and then worked for years and realized its not at all what I wanted. I was riding that confidence for so long I forgot to ask if I wanted to actually do this. unfortunately that confidence, like gas in a car, ran out and I've become this anxious "child" again. You keep walking trying to find a gas station and get a little gas (confidence) but on your way back to the car or to get more gas you realize the gas is gone or maybe it was just mud. I believe people can leave imprints on this world and imprints in this life and some are deeper than others and from learning more about you through this podcast and through life I think you're leaving a pretty decent sized imprint on this world and I think its only going to get bigger!

Man that trip Michael is talking about when he *knew* he was going to make it, it reminds me of when I was 21 and I enrolled into a 6-month training program that had a HUGE fail rate. I remember when I was filling out the paperwork they told me that 95% of people who filled out the same paperwork don't make it the 6 months, either because they can't take the pressure or they can't follow directions and keep up. I remember sitting there thinking "psssh, I got this, I'm gonna ace this like a bauss". Lo-and-behold, I finished the program with flying colors, accolades, the whole nine yards. I know exactly the feeling he's talking about, where you just feel like something isn't going to even be a thing, even though it actually is, but you are just so laser-focused practically to the point of oblivious naivete. It's like setting out to walk a tightrope that so many have fallen off of, and you just don't know how far down it is below so you're not even tripping or questioning your ability. You just feel so confident because you're so thoroughly committed in your heart.

Big fan of Bob Odenkirk, kudos getting him on the show. I have that same attitude that Jerry Seinfeld had that Bob described: of course I should be extremely special and successful! Someone has to be, right? Why not me! Problem is I'm completely inept at everything. I want to know about how he is in ‘real life’ and not just how he is in a certain role as an actor. He’s so sympathetic and authentic, I would also watch everything he does, even if that means reading a phone book aloud for hours.

I was so impressed by how genuine and unpartisan Mike was when the interview started. I’ve never seen someone pleasantly assert the importance of decency like that. No grinding desperation to win for one party or the other. Just an honest reaction to someone potentially dehumanizing some of his viewers.

This was great! Bob hanging out for two hours? I watched this and then listened tot he Better Call Saul Insider Podcast, so it was striking that both talked about the negative effect in the business of not being able to rest, and working too long without it, and how they improved after Breaking Bad and BCS's early Season 1, and how not feeling like one can speak up traps people! I hope Season 6 allows for a smidge more breathing room.

I live in Kokomo, Indiana, 45 minutes north of Indy. So cool to know an Odenkirk lives there, as well as Rosenbaum growing up here too! Never knew that!! I go to Indy all the time! Been to Bloomington many times as well, and it's really nice too! Awesome to know Bob knows the state somewhat, and Michael even better! :)

Mikey the editing, the clips on IG, all the stylistic accoutrements are costing money but they're so worth it in making your show stand out on KZbin! Just keep on keeping on!! One request would be more interviews with older accomplished people because your interview with Jimmy Connors is legendary! The respect and admiration really makes for great watching even though I'd never heard of him before!

I love the part where Bob stated about people on their cell phones talking too loud that you can hear the conversation. I agree with him about including yourself in the conversation cause if they don't want you to listen then they should not broadcast it.

I can’t understand why anyone would come on here and complain about the podcast. Its a TV quality talk show brought to us for free and a damn great interview as well. To the people complaining about the intro or the host talking about themselves...it’s a podcast. Human interaction and the hosts perspective is what makes it unique. You wouldn’t tune in to letterman and skip right to the interviews, you get the whole experience. Great job Rosey! This was a very honest and unpretentious interview. Keep it up!

I love that you get people who usually only gets to answer the same questions over and over again on some junket to actually dive deep. I'm in a bad place with no real medical solution to ever get better so hearing people who seems to have it all figured out struggling is comforting. I don't want bad things to happen to them of course, but at least I know before my body givs up completely that I'm not the completely alone. As for the intro. Give the auidience and algorithm some time. Even Rogan didn't become the giant he's now until roughly 2015 and he had been doing it for years. One thing that will also help are a couple of 5-10 minute clips for every episode. Even though I listen to 20 different podcasts all the time, sometimes I'm just not feeling like I want to listen to an episode. I see a clip to give it a shot and end up listening to the entire thing before binging every podcast that guest has been on.
