This scene was a true demonstration of the shows two worlds colliding. It was surreal to see Howard and Lalo in the same shot, almost like watching a crossover episode of two separate shows. When the candle light started flickering, chills went down my spine even before seeing Lalo - you could feel the temperature of the room drop in an instant. BCS does not always have the most of intense scenes as it relies more on subtlety, but when it gets intense it does it right. Such a strong ending to the mid finale, can’t wait for the last half…

One of my favourite bits of dialogue in this episode was when Lalo comes in. Jimmy says 'How?' then Kim follows it up with 'Ho-Howard, you need to leave.' The two lines kind of follow on from each other with the 'how' part. It's also this moment where Jimmy's completely stunned by Lalo's sudden appearance that he can't even conisder anything else, then Kim, with her knowledge of Lalo being alive, just goes immediately into protection mode knowing Howard is clearly at risk. It's also telling, suggesting that she doesn't believe Howard deserved any of this either really, especially not death. She doesn't think about herself or Jimmy in that moment, knowing full well Howard is the most expendable of the three to Lalo. Side note: Howard's death is something that is going to stick with me for a long time. Genuinely disturbing moment, if not the most disturbing of the BB universe.

@empac86312 жыл бұрын
Besides kids and Jesse’s other girlfriend (Not Jane), Howard’s is one of the most tragic because he’s completely detached from the game. He doesn’t even see a threat when they tell him to leave because it’s so far from his mind that Jimmy, for all his faults, could have cartel members walking in ready to shoot. Infact he even says he’s not done yet like Lalo’s in there to hear him tear them down and he’s agree. Howard could be a bit of a dick, but overall he did seem to genuinely care about Jimmy. It was like there was a brotherhood with them as Howard and Jimmy both loved Chuck, Chuck respected and liked Howard and that made Jimmy jealous. But Howard we found out was almost always in Jimmy’s corner when it came to battling with Chuck about giving him a job, taking it easier on him etc. They even tell him not to practice under Jimmy McGill - which is funny because he doesn’t anymore- and Jimmy instead of hearing “they don’t want to McGill in HHM to be seen as you” he takes out his anger on Howard by doing the dye job, fake tan blue suit billboards everywhere. Howard only ever tried to be decent to Jimmy, and after Chuck’s death feeling responsible and hearing it from Jimmy (who arguably was the biggest force in his suicide) makes a life change to be more positive and better himself whereas Jimmy took Chuck’s death and nosedived into Slippin’ Jimmy/ Saul. Howard didn’t deserve to die, and he certainly didn’t deserve to go this way.

But with Howard it was different. He was someone who wasn't even in the game like Nacho. He hadn't even interacted with any of the criminal characters unlike Nacho. The worst I thought was going to happen with him was that his reputation was going to be burned down by Jimmy and Kim and just leave the series; not being killed off. What hurts more is that he was someone who we got to know more about as the series went on, compared tot he start where he seemed to be jerk, turned out to be a nice guy who was doing what Chuck asked of him, and even still liked Jimmy, despite everything. He even offering Jimmy a job, and then he went after Howard for petty reasons. His reputation ruined by the people he tried to helped, marriage falling apart, and to top it all off, being an incident man who was killed because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time., and the way he actually died may never be known to everyone else. I saw a great observation about this episode. When Mrs. Landry comes, Howard demands that she sits in the wheelchair even when she politely says no which is a clever way of reminding the audience that Howard is still an elitist, corporate lawyer who plays games with his clients for a few extra bucks. Howard is a good person at heart because he genuinely wants to be better and is resilient to setbacks. But he also has that elite, corporate side of him that Kim and Jimmy resent. It's part of who he is
@tonyjp832 жыл бұрын
@@sivad1025 But that elite side of him is nothing to be morally rejected. Like Chuck, they are both peak performers at their jobs, and Chuck's demands that Jimmy becomes ''a real lawyer'' is not wrong in themselves, because Jimmy always chose the avarage, the most easy way out of everything. In life we cannot choose the bear minimum. The problem is that Chuck, unlike Howard, became an elitist because of a badly-solved family problem with Jimmy, which was, in itself, daddys issues for Chuck, just because Jimmy was a more socially likeable person. On the contrary, Howard uses his ''elite'' power for the good, so being elite is a not a problem. Being an ass is a problem. Most of elite people are asses, but not Howard.

Howard is hardly a good guy. He is a complicated case, much like Saul and Kim. @@thalesanastacio760 I disagree with this. Howard was the honest guy the whole time. Just because he finds himself in opposition to Jimmy and Kim doesn't make him the bad guy. @@Banzai51 I never said he is a bad guy, i said he isn't a good one. Howard lives in a moral gray area. He doesn't do anything criminal, but he is not what i would consider moral. He is self centered and selfish, a terrible boss and constantly denies the proper reward for the efforts of kim, and he backs up Chuck even when he is completely wrong. This is not to say that Howard is a bad person, this means that Howard behavior (and Chuck's, Kim's and Saul's for that matter) are more complex than what can be conveyed by the labels of "bad" and "good". That's what makes Better Call Saul a great show in my opinion, there's a great level of nuance to all characters

Agreed. I've been on Team Howard for quite some time. He showed more humanity and angst over Chuck's death than Jimmy did, and everything Jimmy did to him was way over the top. (Howard offered him a job for Pete's sake!). Was he always fun to work for? No, but he was pretty fair. The boss isn't supposed to be your friend, and I've had far worse bosses than Howard. The only reason Jimmy and Kim had to be against Howard is because he grew up "entitled", and that is a poor reason to do him the way they did.

This episode is no doubt a masterpiece of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould's talent. It left me speechless and shocked, not only because Howard had been killed by Lalo (of course, that was the initial trigger of the shock). But because of how the creators of the show emphasised the fact (not so obvious to all) that all actions have consequences. Such as the potentially harmless action of Kim and Jimmy, that were meant to only destroy Howard's career. This show is far more than mere TV entertainment. But a psychological thriller with a deep insight into the mind of reckless people whose egos take over reason. This is a big warning to all, but especially those who think that 'innocent' revenge will teach the other a mere lesson. As we could see, the consequences are far-reaching. And there are probably millions of examples of how an act of revenge can damage a person's life. Simply put, there's cause and effect in everything that we do. Well, let's hope that many, if nothing else, will take at least that from the show.

another piece to note: this mirrors walter's insult to saul in season 5. he demeans saul, implying that he is unethical, saying that he is no clarence darrow. fun fact: clarence darrow is the person who defended leopold and loeb, the very two people that howard compares kim and jimmy to before he is executed. should be noted: leopold and loeb lured an innocent man into a trap before chiseling him to death. so not only is walt's insult even more hurtful to saul than walt even knows, walt also threatens saul in that very same event, saying "we're done when i say we're done". notable is howard saying he's far from done also.

that final scene did something to me lmao. when howard got shot i genuinely felt my heart rate jump nd i was shocked. Then Lalo says "let's talk" nd i jus began laughing. Lalo is the most charismatic villain on TV

Dude as soon as Howard walked into the apartment and began his Monologue I knew something just felt off inside of me, at first I thought maybe Howard was so unhinged that he was going to attack/maybe kill Kim and as soon as I saw the candle flicker the second time I knew it could only be Lalo, and I knew Howard was in the middle of something he wasn't prepared for. I expected a little more back and forth before he killed Howard but it was so fast, like stepping on a bug. Jimmy was right last season when he told Howard "I travel in worlds you cant even imagine" . Howard never expected a thing until it was too late.

Howard pointing out that Chuck used to spin the cans out of habit lends to the idea that Jimmy used to shake up the cans - why else would Chuck develop this method to a point of habit. Genius writing.

You summed it up perfectly that BCS is great at having things happen as expected but still end up being impactful. Also I really like Cliff Main's character this season, the way he calmly assessed the Sandpiper scenario after all the Howard craziness, like nothing phases him, as far as lawyers go he seems like he'd be a good dude to work for...well, unless you are Jimmy that is, lol
@dreamquesttv2 жыл бұрын
I love when he laid it out to Howard that he didn't care if he was telling the truth about Jimmy or not, the clients were what mattered the most. Cliff is the REAL MVP!
@BennyT_34342 жыл бұрын
@@dreamquesttv Exactly! Cliff stayed focused on the big picture, even in extraordinary circumstances, gotta think we will see Cliff interact with Jimmy/Kim about Howard's fate, really interested to see how that goes down!

Did you know that if you install a threaded barrel on your semi-auto, you can buy an adaptor for it and use a Fram Oil Filter as a suppressor? Plus, this PSA: Use a new filter, not one off your engine.

To me these little details of the circular motions of the team getting ready to reshoot, Howard with the soda can, and Lalo twisting his silencer reminds me of the wheels of justice turning onto Jimmy, referencing what Fifi’s pilot said to Jimmy.

@@Terminated_Account I wouldn't say boring. The first two seasons were pretty meh if it wasn't for Tuco/Mike/Hector. Its a slow burn for sure, but the excellent writing is what makes up for the slower pace. It's not for everyone, you really need to invest and pay attention in order to get everything out of it.
