Because they actually mean to say "we only had 2 hours worth of work to do and our employees were scheduled for 8 hours but they can't clock out" This place probably had way too many employees, it's still terrible what they did, but they probably have way more employees than they even needed and just kept hiring because someone probably said they need more.

I was one of the 900 and did work all 40+ hours/week. As soon as the zoom meeting ended all of our computers logged out and we couldn’t even say goodbye to our colleagues. I understand downsizing because of the company going public and all that but we worked hard and couldn’t even let people know we wouldn’t be at our next meetings.

My company did this last year. But it was only about 100 employees. But it was still over a video call. Most of the guys were packed in a room with a camera on them so everyone else on the call got to see their reactions. It was like a public execution. Quite disgusting

I know how those 900 people feel, I just lost my job on 11/30/2021. The crazy thing is, I didn’t get fired, it was because our contract with the city ended, and they didn’t want to renew it even though the job was not done. I was working as a case manager for a nonprofit organization that was providing rent assistance for low income families during the pandemic.

I worked for a company that had all of us meet at a conference room. They told us there would be a meeting and food. While we were all sitting down they handed out envelopes. Then the boss told us that some would be staying and some would be going. He said inside the envelope we would find out. Imagine a whole room of people opening envelopes finding out they had been fired. There were only three that kept their jobs and I was one of them. Was a horrible day for everyone. @@Ms.NoNo2 that's my point... Often, the boss thinks if they can't watch you work, you're not working. This is usually not true. Anecdotal evidence usually shows productivity is pretty consistent and employee satisfaction increases. If someone were truly stealing.. then I agree with dismissal of course. But the number of people he presumes to be thieves seems pretty high. Your opinion is perfectly valid. I just think this kinda highlighted how employers need to value employees more in general. 👍🙂

If you can afford to lose 900 employees all at once, either your company isn't doing well because it doesn't have business coming in, or the employees did such little work it made a negligible difference.

If they were actually working only 2 hours a day and charging 8, I can't say that I blame them. I've had direct reports who get much more done when they worked from home. I've also had reports that got ZERO done when working from home and almost zero when they're in the office. The right move is to ditch the slackers and let the productive employees work from home whenever they want.

I think the 250, or at least some of them, only had 2 hours worth of work to do. Ive had jobs in the past where I didn't have enough work and literally had to pretend to be doing work. It got to the point where I just started doing homework while on the job, lol.

Losing your job is no joke, my dad got fired with no reasoning (i had no idea companys could do this tbh). After 7 months, interviews and interviews my dad finally got hired, a better position than he previously was too, a plant manager. Can't even process what that would've been like if we weren't financially stable, we probably would've been forced to move, which would ultimately suck
