OCS never got the recognition they deserved, the best band of the nineties by a country mile. Would love to go back to those days again.

Nearly, Oasis just edge it for me.. Although, even Noel Gallagher said they & The Verve were better, even if later in the interview he backtracked.. I just appreciate being young when all these awesome bands were in their hayday.. Lucky man you could say!! 😁👍🥃

I remember I’d just say I like modern music that was popular because I’d never really got into music, but now I’ve gone back to listen to more music, I’ve grown to realise that music today isn’t really that good, there’s a few exceptions, but on the whole the modern day has nothing on it

I am nearly 40 and 1st heard this as inpatient within a Glasgow mental health ward in my early 20s. A fellow patient was playing it and after all these years come back to it- knowobdy in my life has a clue the meaning of this to me. Hearing voices- the nightmare comes- friends/family disperse. Sadly medicated and doing good- I still remember when folk ditched me.

Absolutely love this tune. Just now discovering OCS and it’s blowing my mind. I can’t believe the crap on the radio in the US in the 90’s, while all this amazing music was over in the UK.
@the_last_centurion2 жыл бұрын
90s UK was a time for great music. Oasis, The Verve, blur, The Charlatans, Travis, pulp, Supergass. USA put out a few belters too from what I remember.

With ocean colour scene, Simon Fowlers lyrics can often drift into streams of consciousness, abstract and poetic, rarely linear! With this song he's more direct, and his words paint a picture in your mind with each line, bittersweet, nostalgic, but very fun and heartfelt. It's one of the few OCS songs that gives me goosebumps when I sing along. For the record! The 90s was my era, as a musician I followed the careers of ALL the great 90s bands, and NO ONE writes middle 8s/bridges like Ocean colour scene, they really do put some care into that area of a song.

Perfect melodic waves, riffs and shifts...Simon's voice is personal and universal at the same time. On its own, the tune is gorgeous but ths song is a mood and you have to be in a particular vibe for it to truly resonate. When you finally get "it" you get the message...and it hits hard...the truth is brutal. Good luck x

Sonny signed his name up for tomorrow And laughed with all his friends At all the little men who borrow tunes They heard just yesterday Davey got us down but we got away And drank to all the days That we had whiled away Just playing Robin Hood a little out of phase And then the nightmares come And you get blown away And up in your room your walls are cold You find your head is holding out For the welcome of a better day And then the nightmares come And you get blown away And up in your room your walls are getting colder Like you're getting on a roller coaster You can't find the breaks Stevie burned the sky when he flew away And left us things to say When all the world was falling down Around our shoulders, cold and grey Harry carried on in his usual way And Minnie went inside He came out once and we both cried And Minnie blew my head away And then the nightmares come And you get blown away And up in your room your walls are cold You find your head is holding out For the welcome of a better day And then the nightmares come And you get blown away And up in your room your walls are getting colder Like you're getting on a roller coaster You can't find the breaks When you're giving everything away Everybody lets you pay You're saving up for a better day Seeing things in a better way When you know you've got to live There's nothing you won't give To hear the phone and not let it ring Every Monday morning Shughie found love and he almost cried We laughed and wondered why We loved the sky and found the space And gazed out over Stevie's place And then the nightmares come When your friends go away And up in your room your walls are cold You find your head is holding out For the welcome of a better day And then the nightmares come And you get blown away And up in your room your walls are getting colder Like you're getting on a roller coaster You can't find the breaks
