Fast attack will also move it from front to back in the mix. Attack time adjustments on individual buss compressors is a way to give a mix more depth.

I am a new Presonus Sphere user. I am coming from 15 years of Logic Pro on a Mac and have spent the last year looking for an affordable replacement for PC. Studio One 5 is not only the closest I have found but you and Gregor and everything that is included in Sphere make this not only the best replacement for Logic but a superior replacement for Logic. Thanks for all you guys are doing at Presonus. You have made a loyal customer. I can't wait to upgrade my old Audio Box USB (not the 96 version) to the ioStation 24c. You guys rock! Thanks for all your super helpful advice.

@@JAANDLU which brand? I am looking for a pc laptop for myself. I am thinking Dell xps, precision or asus zenbook.
@JAANDLU4 жыл бұрын
@@JashandeepReehalMusic I made it myself. It is a desktop, not a laptop. It is far more affordable to build a PC than buy a laptop. You can customize it for audio. I do not have a video card. I spent that money on RAM. It is actually pretty easy to make it yourself. Just spend some time researching it before you do it and I assure you that you can make a better PC for making music than buy a prebuilt one.

Compression is the same as using salt when cooking. Everyone says 'a little', or 'not too much', so when I started cooking for myself, I put a little salt on my meat and damn, it was bland! So the next day I put a little more salt on my meat and again it was bland... It took me several years before my meat started to have proper taste and after 20 years of cooking I'm still having trouble using enough salt... Thanks for connecting an actual number to your phrase 'a little bit', Joe! ;)

Thanks Joe. Great video. Something I always struggle with on the kick! Nice to understand why I’m hearing what I’m hearing.

Just my 2 cents but I think you should have left the threshold the same for both since that dictates when the the compression starts and then used the makeup gain instead to balance the 2. I'm guessing you did it this way to make the effect a little more obvious but you probably could have achieved that with a slightly longer release time. Anyway, I absolutely love this stuff!!!

Really good vocal impressions of a kick drum lol. 👍

I just recently learned how to do compression on the drums. I also learned that doing extreme compression will turn it into a reverb. LOL

Why is the switch under the meter off on one and on on the other?
@rodneyst-pierre95253 жыл бұрын
He explained that he used automation to switch between the two. That means that he created an automation track that sends a signal to each compress to turn on and then switch off every two measure. You can see the automation lanes at the beginning of the video.

These vids are cool but it would be great to see some insights for more contemporary and electronic music; for instance, an insight from Emmavie would be great!!!

I actually prefer #2. The drums sound more alive and real. #1 sounds like the kick and snare are forward but the hats and overtones are buried. Maybe my ears aren't trained well enough? But thanks for explaining "attack" so clearly :)

Listen in a mix and youd probably change your mind. The drums would never cut through with a fast attack like that
@adithyasatheesh1274 жыл бұрын
Same here. But the drums were soloed. Would sound different in the context of the mix.
