First of all thank you guys for all the support this past year, it's been so much fun watching April progress and getting to ride with her more and more. Honestly your support and positivity has helped inspire both of us more than you will ever know. We really hope you enjoy this video and get a chance to practice landing softer, this skill is one of the ones few people focus on, but really good riders always have a way of smoothing things out and really absorbing impacts with their body. If you have any questions at all let us know! Also just incase people ask, here is the ramp we used in the video - bit.ly/3zjaArM . Mtb Hopper was nice enough to send us this one to try out but like we said in the video a curb or curb cut is a great way to practice and that's how I learned at first :) Kyle

Incredible progress! Watching the footage of Kyle vs. April closely, I think the biggest remaining difference is that Kyle lands with his legs very close to straight, maximizing the suspension effect of his legs, while April is contacting the ground a little more tucked which limits how much she can absorb the impact.
@AprilRideMTB3 жыл бұрын
Great catch John! Yeah maximizing leg travel is really helpful for those super soft landings!

great video again! and thumbs up for my coach Robbert (flowMTB) for starting off with excactly this skill, before progressing to Drop(to flat) and jumping. i also found that relaxing my body in the air makes for less chance on a "dead sailor" as well as a much more smooth landing. as you said, i was way to tense ,and resisted the landings, instead of absorbing it.

I think so many people, new riders and even people who have been riding a long time (myself included) that aren’t riding either the right size bike for them, or they aren’t setup on their bike properly to ride at their best ability. nice video. it's all about managing the impulse on landing. impulse is just change in momentum. impulse is a combination of force and time, so if you extend the time of the momentum change as you land, as Kyle says, the force will be less. it's the same principle as the airbags in cars.

Hey April, I noticed on the soft-tail you were pushing into the suspension, which is good to get grip on a full suspension bike. But for a hard tail, your legs are the suspension and have to act accordingly. To shift you hips back and have your arse hanging behind the the saddle, naturally puts your knees at the right angle to absorb the landing and apply the same grip to the back wheel (the pivot point becomes the handle bars). Good work guys!!!

Hi Kyle and April! I have really enjoyed watching your videos over the last couple of weeks after I discovered your channel! Thank you for the hard work y’all put into it all. I saw you said to ask about future video topics, and so I thought I would make a suggestion. I’ve been cycling for almost 20 years, but mostly all road until the last few years. I’ve been trying to build up my skills on the mtb and get better each time I go to our local bike park. In road biking, fit and position is critical for effective power output and comfort. On the mtb, everything is so much different and kind of changes spur of the moment as you are riding as far as position on the bike. So, my question/ suggestion is: how do you decide position on the mtb? Like saddle forward or back, handlebar height, handle bar rotation, shifters location and stuff like that. If you’ve already made a video about it, sorry that I missed or overlooked it. I think it could help a lot of people figure out how to be more comfortable while riding, and get more power while pedaling and stuff. What do you think?

That is a great suggestion and thank you for sharing! We do need to cover that in more depth for sure. We did cover a little bit in the riding position video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJy3gXWqjKmmepo

Your KZbin channel is awesome! Here’s a video idea: What to do if you’re climbing up a steep hill and need to stop and retain control without rolling backwards and falling back. (How to use your brakes and body control). 🤙🏻
