I bought this because of the looks as well, but I’d like to boost the speed and run time. I’ve never done a motor upgrade, so can you give me a some tips on upgrading motors? I’d like to try brushless.

I love my Feiyue fy03 brushed Wltoys clone in red. Just the right speed for it's size. Nate is correct with the tendency to roll. I am upgrading from friction to oil dampened shocks which I think will help this little 12th scaler.

I like these but for $100 I think the arrma granite voltage is probably the best $100 buy you can find. I don't know how they did it for 100 but somehow they have the secret.

I'm with you Nate, love the way it looks. I think its a great candidate for mild brushless upgrade and that of course will probably break a few things that will need upgraded . Still you could probably make it pretty decent for another $100. So $200ish isnt bad ton me

A set of cheap axle extensions work very well put them on my 12428 that I converted to brushless

Definitely has the cool look factor going for it, especially in the snow. It ran good, and handled the snow without a problem. Problem is we don't get snow. Plenty of desert though. 😊. Looks like it could handle the sand. Good review as Alway's. ⚓⚓👍💗👍💚👍👍⚓⚓.

As an owner of both 12428 and 12429 .. The 12428 is the better unit it's slightly faster it has smaller wheels it handles better because of it ... and doesn't roll as easy

Definitely jealous since we're having a snowless (mostly) winter this year in PA. Anyway, I love the look of the truck/buggy. So what could you do (or I if I bought it) to make it a little faster or have more torque? It's been a long time since I've been in the hobby - Tamiya Blackfoot (OG model) so I'm just wondering if this is a fun, cheap platform to build from for fun or if there's better options.

I have the 12429 and the diffs are metal. The rear drive shaft is plastic but metal upgrades are cheap on eBay.

Looks like you got a slow one. I've seen videos of this truck going faster. I notice these WLToys vehicles there seems to be a bit of a lottery with the motor speed. It was the same with the 12428 and the 12402. Some youtubers got a slower one and others got a faster one. I definately won the motor lottery on my 12428. Was able to hit 31kph out of the box but some youtubers were getting 25 to 27. I saw one vid where they got 33kph out of the box. I say WAS because now I have gone brushless 3300KV with Hobbywing 120A ESC and 3S!!!

Yeah, my 12428 is pretty fast too. Wanted to buy this one too, to have fair races with friends, but it seems so slow in video's. If it's the same motor and ESC and stuff, I might take the gamble. Already have decent lipos for it lying around.

Are you sure it wasn't a safe cut off due to load on the motor. When I hold my 12428 from moving and spin the wheels it cuts out, until I switch it off and on then it's good to go. Even if the battery is full charged. Just saying if the battery is flat mine cuts out also but switching it off and on only runs for 5 or so seconds.

It looks like the 12428 chassis I have the 12427 yes 7 I asked WLtoys what’s the difference between the two and they said it doesn’t exist I sent them a pic of the manual that says 7 they said it’s a typo I showed them the box where it says 7 they said it’s from China I said isn’t the 8 from China they didn’t answer when I asked them about the brand XKS they said it’s part of their brand for wholesalers to sell (so they lied it does exist)
