BETTER THAN THE ENDURO?? - 2021 Specialized Stumpjumper EVO Expert review!

Today I thought I'd show you the new bike! It's a Specialized Stumpjumper Evo expert, and I've had it since November. I've done a tonne of riding on it and have found it to be a great machine! Here's what I love about it and what I don't!

Hey great job with the review.. I’m 6ft and stuck between s4 & s5. I’m gonna have to test the back to back on trail to be sure. I’m coming from a Large beefed up Mega at 170 & 166 travel with the cascade link & ZEB fork. Same kinda thing I’m moving away from my super enduro bike to have a more all mountain enduro bike that’s more fun and still mostly capable. Just almost feeling like the S4 is a smidge small and the s5 is a smidge large 💆🏻‍♂️

I’m 6ft 3 and I’d rather have an S4, much nimbler. It just depends on your riding style

I am 6'1 and don't think I would go larger than s4 as well. Had the shop weight the s4 evo comp alloy with pedals and it was 36 lbs which is a lot of bike already for me.

Im just getting into Parks. I currently ride a Stumpy Comp carbon 140mm travel. But THinking to get an enduro or a evo pro. Lmk what you think! Im fairly advanced, definitely not expert or pro!

use shoe goo, it holds it on but will come off if ever needed.

What did you end up doing with the chain stay protection that was peeling, i’m having the same problem. Btw I have the exact same bike and it’s the best bike i’ve ever ridden absolutely amazing.

It’s an awesome bike aye! I’m going to put a little bit of “shoe glue” in there. That’s meant to fix it right up! Haven’t had the chance to do it yet though!

Do you think the bike would be affected at all by running 150mm up front? I'm planning on running Push coil front and rear.

Hey Taylor, have you had any issues with SJ EVO chipping the paint/carbon on the lower chain stay right near where the chain comes back onto the chain ring? Kind of near where that rubber flap has come unglued. I’ve seen a couple of photos on forums which have the stay a bit chain chewed

Hi! Mine seems okay so far, although the chain has definitely chewed a little bit of the stay protector. I’ve heard people who run bigger chainrings have less issues, but the issue is exacerbated when going to oval or smaller chainrings. My fix is going to be a bit of shoe glue and some 3m tape.

Great review! What’s your height and weight if you don’t mind me asking. I’m 180 cm and weigh 91 kg. I can’t decide between the S4 and the S5.

Thanks mate! I’m 185cm and about 110kg at the moment. Specialized has a size calculator online, although It still recommended to me that I get an S4 but only just. I went for the S5 so it could be a bit more of a stable ride. 👍

i'm 186cm. Ii have a 2021 enduro S4 and it's freeking massive. i would definitely size down rather than up unless your trails are all straight out speed runs with no turns

@@aidandawn2717 I ended up with a S4 Evo and I’m absolutely loving it! Still getting all the settings dialed in and getting used to the longer wheel base compared to my 2016 Stumpjumper 29er.

The enduro is a bigger bike on the size charts. I like having a big bike and had an S4 enduro but S5 stumpy and they both feel pretty similar size wise. Great to hear you’re liking the new bike!

@@TrailswithTaylor I’d love to hear what your experience with pedaling efficiency is between this and the enduro. I got the enduro partly because I felt it was actually less of a water bed than my 2020 stumpy and it was so good going down that if it climbed better too why not right? But I’ve heard the new Evo is better. What do you think? Weight isn’t much different as I am lucky to be on the S-work enduro...mainly just looking at suspension efficiency.

Definitely not as I’m 6’2” and feel pretty happy on it! Being that you’re a wee bit taller it’d probably be ideal. 👍

What’s the max tire size for this model?

Specialized recommends no larger than a 2.5 inch wide rear tire. Front depends on your fork.

Hey Alex! I’m really liking the low position on the rear, and I’m using the middle headset cup. It’s a good mix of climbing and stability.

​@@TrailswithTaylor Great review...I tried 63.5 using high setting thinking I would hate the slack angle....I was so wrong, I love the safe feeling for steep technical trails...so that's my keep setting for everything I ride now. I love the plush suspension and find the tyres it came with awesome...the new butcher t9 is way better than the old butcher. I love the swat cage and water bottle that fits inside....I am 178cm =5.10 and got the S4...so stable but I am just curious if S3 would be more nimble as yes, this is a big bike. With the more reach I don't know if I would like going less as I have got used to more room in the cockpit. But for people unsure of size if on the cusp of size chart...maybe go smaller so the bike is more easy to throw around...that's my take...but would love to know if you have tried the 63.5?...I'm living in Wellington...trails here are mint :)

Sounds like you got the right size to me, I definitely prefer the extra reach! I haven’t tried the 63.5 angle yet but found the chainstay adjustment enough to make it feel really capable. If I was doing a big downhill day on shuttles or something, I’d go for the slacker angle but I’m pedalling most places these days so try and keep a balanced geo setting :)

@@weichentechnikk8083 I’ve managed 2 bike shops. This sport is out of control and so are the plastic bikes with 160mm of travel designed for machine built trials at resorts. Jesus. Get a steel hard tail and ride like a man on real trails.

I don't know . I tested a stumpjumper evo and it pedaled like sh!t uphills. The Enduro was way easier to climb , even with the extra weight.

It climbs well but the enduro was a better climber.
