Not trying to add more hype about this camera but man... This camera has actually changed a lot for me! Excited to share my thoughts on this little beast. I'll be making a video comparing it directly to the Red Komodo in the near future so stay tuned! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments section below.

I totally agree with this guy. Just got my c70 and it changes everything if you love shooting video. The image quality is unmatched in this form factor and pricepoint. If you have been spoiled with built in ND filters and false color, you will never want anything less. It is also the easiest camera I have ever used and with the 0.71x speed booster, your life will be forever improved. I just bought a Canon full frame EF 24-105mm F4 lens for $650 which is actually 17mm-75mm F2.8 when the speed booster is attached. That is literally the perfect combination and the only lens you ever need. I also purchased a Canon 50mm F1.8 EF lens for low light and that becomes a 36mm F1.2 for $100. LOL. I also bought a super35 Sirui 35mm F1.8 anamorphic lens with RF mount for $500. Never realized how awesome a super35 sensor is. With these three lenses, focal lengths and apertures, I spent $1250 for what I consider the holy trinity and most affordable setup for the C70. Pair that with a Sennheiser MKE 600 and you are ready to make award winning films with a camera that is Netflix approved and you spent just under $7000 for everything. What a time to be alive.

@japanesemonster I'll correct one thing in here, 7 months after the fact. The speed booster wont make a 24 a 17 because you forgot to apply the super 35 crop factor on top. So it would be 24 X 1.6 X 0.71 which gives you a focal equivalent of 27.26 which is still a small crop but makes the lens far wider than the 38MM 1.6 crop Canon Super 35 puts on the lens.

No, it's not a 17-75mm lens. Also will never be a f2.8 lens.

Bro its crazy, my cousin was looking for an x100v a few days ago and saw you were selling one on FB market. By the time he gathered the cash you had sold it, I Recognize the profile pic while searching info on the RED komodo. I have a c70 and love it! I also have a Red Raven 4.5k, need to get my hands on a komodo though just love R3D too much

Thanks for the good overview - the C70 is a weird camera - lots to like, but not cheap. Lack of EVF kept me from buying it when it came out, but with the substantial firmware updates the camera is still a contender. I'm about to upgrade from C100 M2 after getting more and more frustrated with the ancient codec.

A good right handle helps a lot with the ergonomics, I'd love something akin to the Outrigger handle, or even for small rig just to make one that has a trigger! But for me it makes a massive difference, I compare to the FX6 a lot, Komodo feels like a different thing still. There's similarities but I just wouldn't run n gun an event on a Komodo like I would with a Sony or Canon cam. So on the FX6 you have the handle and can get comfy with it. The Komodo Blue Cage has a ARRI rosette on the right hand side so you can easily attach a handle 🫶

I owned the C70, Komodo, and Z Cam E2 F6. I sold the Komodo because it was a PITA to rig all the time. You can't beat the C70 for run and gun as you have built in ND's, 4 ch audio and great battery life out of the box. I'm still trying to find a use for the Z Cam as it's also a pain to rig and I'm currently testing ProRes Raw out to a Ninja V but then I have to attach my Sounddesigns MixPre 3 ii for sound. The biggest gripe I have with the C70 is that the screen is unusable in bright sunlight. I use a cheap Portkeys viewfinder as I don't want to drop a couple of thousand bucks on a good one. I also use an Atomos monitor which is good in sunlight but it adds quite a bit of weight. I'm an old fart so simple is better these days so I'll probably sell the F6 soon and maybe get that viewfinder. Great video and I'll keep the C70 till the end of days.

@rickseigh460 Жыл бұрын
@@daniellove162 Yes it probably would help a bit but I'd hesitate putting anything on the screen while it's opened as the screen mount isn't very strong. I do have a hood for the 5 inch Atomos so I wonder if it could be rigged for the smaller screen. Maybe I'll give it a try if the sun comes out again.

I don't understand how you can compare Komodo with C70. Komodo is a completely different tool. If you want autofocus, go for the c70, it's a great camera, but simple Komodo is just a differen tool.

I agree! But they are roughly in the same price bracket and many people are considering them both when making a big purchase on a cinema camera

@@AnthonyRodriguezz I understand that, but I'd rather compare it to fx6. Komodo has R3D, nicer image, usability, etc. This is what people who work in production need. We do not need a built-in nd filter or autofocus. Someone who needs af should not even look at Komodo. But I completely understand you. today technology is at a very high level.

@AnthonyRodriguezz Жыл бұрын
The c70 is great but man… that build quality is absolute trash! You also have to keep in mind the 6k is around 2k and the c70 was 5.5k retail so the expectations are on a different level when it comes to that build quality
@jeremiahkuehne2400

What's wrong with the build quality of the P6K? I've been abusing my 6K Pro since release and it's still solid and I have a couple 4Ks that are even older that haven't had issues. The C70 is one of the only cameras that is a step up that interest me but so many reports of the screen breaking on them really bother me. A lot of people seem to think the Blackmagic cameras are just a regular plastic but in my experience it holds up really well and has the benefit of keeping weight down

I've been saying all this from day one, even before I had C70 in my hands. Komodo is incredibly limiting camera and that's not by accident. Red never meant for Komodo to be used as a solo shooter camera for "small" projects which is exactly how most people use it :) Komodo is made as a C or D camera for bigger Reds on big sets, and that's why it's so incredible hard and slow to work with compared to C70. On the other hand, C70 is exactly made for solo shooters on a "smaller" budget projects and that's probably 98% of all video production on the planet. On the other side, Sony Fx6 is better than Komodo from a handling standpoint, but has a much worse image, and compard to C70 it's worse in both image and ergonomics. C70 is the best solo shooter camera on the market by a long shot, and I don't see that changing until C70 mark II which will only solidify that position. Additionally, Canon Speedbooster with EF lenses is the way to go with C70, and having a LCD viewfinder loupe is a must for a complete superfast workflow.
@AnthonyRodriguezz
@AnthonyRodriguezz Жыл бұрын
I agree… partially! I own the red Komodo and actually made a whole review on it. I prefer the IQ and post production workflow MUCH better than the c70 and will grab that camera whenever I’m shooting any higher end jobs or am just wanting the best IQ possible, but yeah the c70 is perfect for run n gun. Also, the Komodo is like most other cinema cameras. Easily operable as a solo operator if you have the experience!
@vladimirtalijan
@vladimirtalijan Жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyRodriguezz It's not about experience when it comes to speed, you just can't do the same things as fast as you can with C70, you always need (much) more time with Reds compared to C70. I've been using Reds occasionally for the last 15 years, and it's always because the production I work for is asking that. Reds are slow, cumbersome and really hard to work with if you do anything other than highend feature films with a big crew, and on top of that they are unreliable, Reds are like Windows PCs :) As for the image, C70 is closest to the Alexa without being Alexa, and I'll take Alexa image over Reds any day of the week.

@@vladimirtalijan I have a RED Komodo and absolutely love it. I’m a solo shooter and own a small production company. I have never been limited to what I can achieve with the Komodo. It has actually progressed my filming career and landed more jobs. From shooting weddings, to run and gun stuff, I’ve never been held back because it takes too long to get up and running. The image Komodo produces is incredible along with the color science. Every time I color grade footage from the Komodo it’s like looking at it for the first time. I’m so happy RED came out with the Komodo because it allowed little guys like myself to finally get into the RED ecosystem. As always, these are my opinions and we’re entitled to our own 🙂
