Better than the vlogger handle? Sony ZV-1 and Ulanzi MT 16 Review & Unboxing

Anyone with a Sony ZV1 will tell you that when SteadyShot is set to Active and you're using the Vlogger Handle, the picture is way too cropped-in! To fix that, I bought a Ulanzi MT-16 selfie stick! In this video, we're unboxing and reviewing it, showing all the features, and some of the testing I've done with it!

After 15 years in Photography I've learned 2 important things. Buy cheap things and you are never satisfied and are always compensating. Spend the money upfront to get what you really need and spend once. You hardly going to use that selfie stick. I know because I did the same things years ago. Ride safe John.

@@RoadReality What's done is done. If I had known you were looking for a camera I wouldn't have suggested that one, I'm sure you did your research and figured that would be the best one for you. I my opinion, and that's just what it is, my opinion. The ZV1 is a beginner camera, you've been making videos over 4 years, you don't need that one. However, as you already bought that one, instead of buying one more tripod, I would have invested in a wider and brighter lens. Wider lens would have solved your stretched out hand problem all while giving you more light. Oh and turn off IS. Quick note, Now a better camera would have given you lens and body IS, again solving that crop in problem.

@@AkaBull Thanks - I DID do a ton of research, and wanted something with a fixed lens so it would fit in my pocket and I could do guerilla-style video and picture-taking. And while I may have been making videos for a while, I don't even know what "IS" is, in reference to cameras... can you clue me in? Also, I'm a beginner when it comes to dedicated non-action cameras, so I didn't really want to jump in with a $1,200-2,000 camera, and all the expensive glass. This fits in the tour pack organizer or a pocket and gets the job done.

@@RoadReality Oh sorry, I was referring to (IS) Image stabilization. The problem with fix lens is there is no upward motion when you get better at photography or videography, the only path forward is to buy a new camera. Hence buy good, buy once. I get you're looking for convenience, but sometimes that's what hinders us, the trade off isn't worth it. Buying a semi pro camera may not be convenience in the short-term, but it pays off in the long-term. Versatility is everything as well as quality you get in return is glorious. Imagine quality and audio quality you can enjoy for a good five to seven years. Well that's how often I up grade at least. Davinci has image stabilization built in, trying shooting wide open while duck walking if you have to, you'll save so much money handheld tripod. I have one and I only use it when I'm sitting or recording me doing something at a distance.

@@AkaBull Ahh, OK, stabilization - got it. Yeah, I tried with it off [on accident], and I'm definitely not steady enough, the footage was way shaky [you'll see tomorrow]. Even trying all of Resolve's built-in settings for stabilization, it didn't turn out well. I cannot disagree with ANYTHING you've said - and down the line, I may just have to go buy a better camera. At least at that point I can hand this one down to one of my kids, they can get used to it! It's kind of like GoPros at this point - I have them for specific uses, and can adapt them to other uses [Max Lens Mod on vs off, for instance]. So, at some point I may end up with multiple dedicated non-action cameras, for whatever I'm filming that day :D

It looks like a nice bit of kit. The last Ulanzi product I bought was the magnetic quick disconnect. I was underwhelmed as it broke going down the road. So I'm a bit gun shy on the brand.

It IS! I've been using it for a while, and not exactly gentle with it... and so far, so good. It's not something I'd mount to my bike, though. Heck, I wouldn't put ANY quick disconnect or plastic mount on my bike, as I much prefer solid mounts for that stuff.
