Side note but I feel the people who say Claude was character assassinated either didn't understand his character or don't like the actions he takes in this game and justify it by saying he was misscharacterised. Like take 6:07 for example. He's OOC because he schemes? Really? When that's one of the things the original game talked about a lot but never expanded upon because he got stuck with SS 2.0? Ugh. And then when someone explains why it makes sense that he's against the church or that it's good that he schemes people say that "people aren't complaining about that" when that's the only thing I've seen them say when they say he is OOC. Like just say you can't get behind his actions and you don't like it and move on ffs, don't start this bullshit that he was character assassinated just because he's not "good boi funny meme man haha" anymore. "But muh curiosity" he's the leader of an entire country which is something we see takes a lot out of him wtf do you want him to do go to the monastery in the middle of the war to see it he finds some books to investigate something that doesn't even make sense he investigates because Byleth, which was his entire reason for snooping around, isn't in the picture anymore? Anyways Shez is such a dumb dumb I love them so much

Just about to finish my second run (Golden Wildfire no optional chapters). Yeah this basically sums up my feelings pretty well. One thing I'll say is that I hope they bring in this kind of class system into a possible Warriors 2 that's a big crossover like the first one. It means we have opportunities to have more characters from across the franchise without the existence of clones being as big an issue.

Let me just say bluntly that the people who think Claude was mischaracterized weren't paying real close attention to Three Houses Claude then. He's always had this side to him, but the circumstances and lack of Byleth influence as well as Edelgard surprisingly being more open for trust via pacts, helped bring out that side of him that was always below the surface. My hubby Claude always wanted the Dragon Pope dead. He even gets support points up with Byleth if you choose that dialogue option after the first chapter of the timeskip haha, and in the Three Houses timeline, a pact with the Empire just wasn't in the cards. And hey funnily enough even though he sided with the church in 3H, people seem to forget that he got his wish. Rhea died of her wounds from Shambhalla right after the battle with Nemesis. As Crimson Flower shows more subtly via supports, and Scarlet Blaze shows more overtly emphasized, the faith itself isn't the problem but those at the top of the Central Church enabling these outdated and prejudice systems. Its why the Southern and Eastern Church were allowed to exist in 3 Hopes. Honestly this game really highlighted much more how problematic the Central Church was. I feel particularly a lot more sympathy for Faerghus because outside of their shitty geography, it is really emphasized in this game how much of a noose the Church has on the Kingdom whether they like it or not.

@@RexZShadow Per the Shadow Library in the Three Houses DLC, Those Who Slither in the Dark helped the Kingdom's first leader, Loog, to successfully rebel against the Empire. The Church of Seiros, however, did legitimize the rebellion under the condition that the Church becomes the country's official religion. Hence why even in the present Faerghus is loyal to the Church.

Except at the end Claude turns around because The Truth he sought from Rhea was not what he expected. When he learned what her actual secrets were he was actually sympathetic to her. Here he’s basically just another Crimson Flower playing the role of Nemesis, right down to Shez taking the place of Arval just as Arval and Nemesis were the powerhouses of the War of Heroes on Nemesis side. Not to mention for all the saying the Central Church does this or that, the game doesn’t show it, not even in the Book of Seiros. Nevermind how Azure Gleam supports go over benign things the Central Church does for the Kingdom, or that the Western Church they’ve been in conflict with helped cause the Tragedy of Duscur, and are Xenophobic and hate Rhea for being tolerant. Claude’s Cyril support helps too, since Cyril makes clear how much Almyra never gave a crap about orphans like him, while the Church takes in orphans and gives them a better life than they’d have at Goneril or Almyra.

But that doesn't mean he suddenly changed his mind about the church needing reforms nor does it mean he would have allowed her to continue running the church just because she told him she was traumatised. By that point she's almost dying and completely out of power anyways and has been replaced by their BFF Byleth so it's not like he has to do anything lmao.

I couldnt put three houses down, while I finished this one here and there. I dont think it holds a candle to 3 houses, despite being a good game. I have over 1400 hrs in 3 houses. I barely hit 100 hours here without getting bored. Its a good spin off, dont get me wrong. And a game that can keep your interests that long is worthy of respect. But 3 houses buries this one.

Plus since all the events about that wouldve taken place at the school, of course we dont see it, plus the fact he still has that behaviour whenever the secrets of TWSITD are brought up. Plus the creator sword is completely irrelevant to this plot so why would they bog this story down by forcing it in there for a subplot?

All the gay flirting in this game was such a surprise, I loved it… Btw Shamir’s bitter ex storyline seems like a lesson in consent more than anything else? She tells Leonie “when someone isn’t interested, walk away.” And I really like that! She still seems to have some queer subtext in her writing here (like her support with Balthus), which we love, but I think that paralogue served a really well done, somber purpose

I've done two full routes: BE and GD and they have both been fantastic, BE has a satisfying ending and GD is great the whole way through, both understand their Lords great. Comparing, this GD to Houses GD, no question, much better, actually understands claudes motives and wants, and doesn't side-line him for Church route which he would never do. Comparing, this BE to Houses BE, It's actually finished, it's satisfying, got ups and downs and turns arounds. Much less of a lead, but overall an improvement. Started BL but not gonna finish it for a while. Trying to not get burnt out. Edit: My own main problem with the gameplay is the Gender Locked classes, I wanna deck people with my fists

What in GW had anything to do with Claude wanting to learn the true history and make peace between Fodlan foreign nations. He actively does the opposite by worsing Fodlans relationship with Almyra by killing a almyran prince. Actively made relations between the Kingdom and Sreng worse. Edelgard the most anti church of Seiros character which the game doesn’t horrible case of showing why by the way. Rhea actively saves the empire and Fodlan from Thales. Claudes desire to learn history of Fodlan to better understand it was completely removed.

@@manga925 He gives Shahid every single chance to surrender, he had no choice but to kill shahid. Plus he had talked to Nader and learned that the Almyran king did not care what was happening with Shahid. He then got Nader, who is in charge of Almyra's border forces, to be an ally, he defected from Shahid but he didnt defect from Almyra, as seen in later chapters where he could easily go to get something signed by the king himself. He didn't actively do anything to make the Kingdom and Srengs relationship worse, the "message" he was talking about is literally just going "have they seen us? Are they going to take advantage if us being here? Okay cool, makes things easier for us" The central Church is the only force in Fodlan who actively encourages and blocks relations without outside countries, and who stop him from learning all of Fodlans secrets due to their illuminati like control over imfornation and invention, so of course he'd want them gone for all that. While the church exists, Claude cannot reach either of his goals.

@@manga925 The Empire's contact with other nations is "We've previously invaded you, work for us", it is far from consistent. The Kingdom's relationship with other nations is a War of attrition with constant back and forth fighting, which is put off every winter unless they plan something big, not constant, like almyra. You say "exactly why people think claude is a mess in this game" when you haven't made a point on that matter. Reminder that Silver Snow and Verdant Wind were written when the characters were not fully formed, and you can see that it is consistant with his Pre timeskip and AM/CF personality. We aren't ignoring his support with Cathrine, one support line in a route where he's joined up with people which go against his goals, from the people who are against his goals, it's a forced reasoning which doesn't fit. Duscur is a region of the Kingdom, it's not a seperate country.

SPOILER ALERT . . . . . Though on a sour note - FUCK WHOEVER DECIDED TO SCRIPT MURDER MIKLAIN. Seriously, you can save Howe with Gwendal if you move fast enough but for whatever reason MIklain gets script-killed by progress, my buddy with maxed out 8 characters triggered his death in 119 seconds. Like, he was an interesting character, Edelgard's wet dream of achieving power despite being crestless happening naturally in the kingdom... and boom, dead.

IMO it's an equal story with different gameplay. Though the most lovable thing I saw is the fact that Byleth screwed everything for Edelgard which originally seems to plan Kostas not to kill Claude and Dimitri but to get rid of a teacher so Jeritza can become a teacher and rescue Monica to identify Solon so that Edelgard can identify who to avoid and who to target organising a coup and thus starting a war sooner with Dimitri not going from troubled to insane in Tomb of Seiros.... Like, you kinda start appreciating how awesome was her plan and how it all went to shit by Jeralt being the one who decided to help them. Though I have absolutely no idea where you've gotten bisexuality from - Shamir was chased by ex-employee who fell for her while Shamir said she's not into that etc. Though sure, way more representation with Monica and a few other implications.

If you want good exploration, play Ys 8. I'm currently playing that instead of 3 Hopes and I love it. I may suck at the game, but the music and the island is really pretty. It's great and I have a lot of fun. I also finished the story in the OG warriors, but I haven't commited to the grinde yet, because my backlog is gargantuan and i still haven't read all my books. Yes, I still read books. Light Novels and Manga to be exact. I have recently become obsessed with a manga called Queens Quality and I must have it and consume every bit of the story. Curse you Tokyopop for not licensing it in Germany. I am now forced to buy the American release. But hey, maybe I will play 3Hopes when I feel motivated again. My next big commitment will be Xenoblade 3. That is coming in 5 days, good lord. But yeah, I love me some Fire Emblem, but I kinda don't want to play any right now. Ys is so much more fun currently. And Trails. Which i also kidna suffer a burnout from. Or maybe I'm just lazy. I hope you have fun with Xenobalde 3.

Claudes characterization is better because he shows us he schemes and then he actually does unlike three houses which seems to talk about him being cunning but undercuts most of his ideas by reusing them in silver snow where byleth just makes the same plan. (Specifically using empire uniforms to invade a fort). His Almyran heritage is also irrelevant and barley mentioned in Houses, where in hopes it’s much more important. I think the characterization issues come from the fact that he aligns with the empire in two of the three routes in this game when he never did in three hopes and still doesn’t in Azure Gleam. His normal motives were self preservation of Lescister and uncovering hidden truths of fodlan, which is why it’s weird that his route in this game had nothing to do with TWSITD (whose hideout is in his territory and we’re his original three houses endgame) or uncovering the lies of the church. To me that’s what always made the golden deer fun is the lack of involvement in the main conflict slowing them to investigate other players in the war

Seteth and Rhea actively help Edelgard save Adrestia from Thales in scarlet blaze and she literally tells Claude Killing Rhea is pointless because the masses of the Kingdom would still worthship the cos. Thales is behide even the war of heroes in three hopes. The war was already a pointless mess if you didn’t have Dimitri going insane. Three hopes has all the inconsistencies of three houses but even more. Look at how Catherines supports contradict literally every scene that says the cos is bad. Also Cos never even does anything bad like kill Ashes dad because white clouds doesn’t happen lol. The church has so little screen time SB ends with Rhea killing Fodlans true main villain. Hell GW doesn’t even kill Thales lol. Despite the game making it more obvious his behide everything to the point Arval hates him.

I just thought the whole GW storyline was a mess - it had a really strong start and a couple of interesting scenarios where we see Claude not having a clue of what's going to happen, making some very dodgy decisions and being unsure of himself but they ultimately didn't go anywhere so that was disappointing. The story does try to redeem a stronger narrative in the last couple of chapters, but it complete fell apart for me after Chapter 4.
