Several apps you might like to try: 1. Taio for writing with Markdown (truely great writing app) 2. Really for magazine subscriptions AUD14/month and much much better than Apple News 3. Simple Cam and Camera1 as replacements for the inbuilt camera app (Camera1 is a great black and white camera with a wide range of image sizes) 4. SlideRuleHD (totally useless but I started my engineering career with a slide rule and having on on my iOS devices is kind of neat). Taio and using Markdown is a good way to write. I like your channel!

Thanks for many good tips. Nice painting! I considered dropping iPad earlier this year and sold my first generation iPad Pro 10.5". After two months I regret it and bought a refurbished 2020 iPad 12.9" Pro on a bargain sale. It is very convenient with the larger screen. I use it for some of the same things as you, but I also use it as a web radio as the speakers are very good and it is easy to bring along.

It make it more useable for splitscreen, e.g. to take notes with the Apple pen on one part of the screen. I use it more for studying than I used to before.

7:29 went through and did the shortcuts session. It ended up with me just using greyscale filter and assistive access mode more. So I'd say even though it's not my final solution to distractions on iOS, it was a great first step to getting me "clean."

I have a very old iPad Pro 12” which I’ve use all the time for digital art, audible, diary etc. once more had to step up and teach maths to my granddaughter (she is not pleased!). So I use procreate to scribble with my Apple Pencil. All 1st generation. It suits me becomes I am also an old lady. As a retired maths teacher I find that maths quickly turns into a literacy lesson with kids trying to write ‘evidence’. And who for. I’m not interested in written worksheets. I want it quick- whizzing through ideas and getting the practise into her head. She is 12 and a lazy toad. But using my iPad for tutorials (u tube/ TikTok) I am teaching her. She’s not stupid, just school isn’t doing it. Thanks for the new app ideas. I’ll check them out. 😊

Thanks! I’d definitely go 512 if you can afford it. Given many apps work better with the photo library - it’s a worth having the storage for a smoother workflow I think. But I like using iPad with a fast ssd too. Cheers!

Brilliant video, thx. Can you use an external digital camera in place of the Facetime camera for video calls? I presently do that through my iMac, but I would love to move to an iPad instead of the desktop.

I'm not sure if you can use a digital camera, but you should be able to connect a standard web cam to your iPad. You may need to buy a USB-C hub to plug the camera into the hub and the hub into the iPad. I was actually surprised that worked. I briefly tested it on FaceTime on an iPad Pro running iOS 17

Yeah absolutely - I’m aware, I just used the phrase to categorise it for my use cases. Graphic looks amazing for this - but could be limited access to certain regions - check it out. Otherwise yeah - sticking to Illustrator / Figma may be better :)

Thoughts on minimalist vs apple reminders app (in built in ipad)

Overall: I’d go for todoist for functionality, minimalist for vibes, reminders… I don’t use but I guess good for native integration? :)

@@BetterCreating yeah well there's that but then they also have customisation and priority settings for free (gotta pay for these on minimalist). Have to agree minimalist is great for vibes though!

I have been having a lot of issues with my iPad Air 5, my pencil isn’t working properly, the trail keeps getting cut. And when I have separate windows for notes, there is a glitch whenever I switch between them, for eg. the markup toggle. Are there any suggestions ? I tried restarting and disconnecting and reconnecting the Apple Pencil but no luck.

Which model would you recommend between iPad or iPad Air if i want to buy one for video editing, watch movies as my laptop?

I think if you want to do multi-layer 4K editing - you’ll want to get something with good storage and processing power - and I would recommend the larger 12.9’ versions for multitasking and more laptop replacement type stuff. unless you will use an external monitor or want to keep it easier to hold and carry. I’d make sure to go M1 chip minimum now too - as some features like external screen support are much better + better for high power video editing tasks. :)

My 6+ year old iPad still works, so I really need to make more of it than I have done the past year or so. Just have to find a syncing solution for my Logseq and Obsidian files, then I'll be good to go. 🙂
