On whether their last era is better or their first: Matt has been active on Reddit these past few days and told an anecdote that when The Stage (their last album) came out he put the band's previous songs on Spotify and kept skipping songs, they seemed "amateur" to him. He says he had a panic attack 😂. Luckily though, he says he calmed down 😎 and went back to appreciating their old works. It's clear that right now both Matt and the rest of the band members are attracted to another kind of music. It seems to me that he also said that he doesn't like most current metal songs. That makes me think that the new album will surprise, and I'm sure in a good way.

I'm glad he mentioned listening to r&b and projects like Massive Attack and Nine Inch Nails. I really think using literally those two influences would make for a great A7X record that keeps people on their toes, has some atmospheric aggression, and remains catchy. I mean, think of it this way. A7X could utilize essentially what David Bowie did on records like Diamond Dogs, Scary Monsters, 1.Outside, and Blackstar in a metal context. That's something I would absolutely love, because it's not often Matt has delved into some really soulful or eerie vocals. 8 or 9 out of every 11 Avenged Sevenfold songs are a little more straightforward on his end even if Syn, Zacky, and whatever drummer are doing something wild. Give the next record some impressive dynamics and really emotive vocals and I can guarantee fans will be on board with it. Eclectic is the best classic.

I can see why he views Waking the Fallen and City of Evil as amateur, because the band did punch in a lot of parts. Some of them overlapped a little too much to reasonably perform as they are on the record. I can see where he'd be critical of himself. I'll most likely always feel the middle records from 2003-2010 were the band's creative peak, but they aren't unlikely to make records of extraordinary quality that could change my mind. I recognize a lot of growth with The Stage, although I don't want the band to become too enraptured in songs with less intensity. Energy will always be essential on top of atmosphere. If they can strike a balance in dynamics and pull off a record with songs that have gravitas, they'll have no issues drawing as many people in as possible.

It really does amaze me how many great songs were left off of the main records. The only thing that makes this song not a usual listen for me is how often the chorus repeats. Everything else is absolutely incredible. The bridges for Diamonds in the Rough songs are my favorite parts across the board. What I also love about this song is how much Guns N' Roses was put into it. Nasty blues rock riffs suit the band well. The major key dueling is fantastic. The part where Matt goes dark near the end is beautiful. It's such a good song! 😄

The background screams were all Matt. Inhale fry. This song is evidently about regrets. Not very specific, but descriptive enough to connect well with the listener. I'm glad the Patrons picked this one.
