I just got a 30x today and I like it. I'm far from a professional and I just tinker with it at home. Its replacing a now ancient Casio px320 from the late 2000s. Big difference in sound quality. And I love the headphone jacks being in front instead of the back.

I recently played the Roland FP30 Kawai ES110 Yamaha P125 and Casio PX160, along with some more expensive digital pianos and acoustics for comparison. I also had a salesman play each one to get a better idea of the overall sound. As a beginner getting ready to make a purchase, here are my thoughts: Roland FP30 - Feel: The FP30 is the only one in this group that had the weight and hammer action feel of an acoustic piano. The keys and the action felt very nice. It felt similar to the more expensive Kawai CN-27 with RH3 action. Sound: The FP30 has a unique piano sound that I wanted to like, but hearing it back-to-back with the ES110, it seemed a little off. The sound is of high quality, but it was not as pleasant as the Kawai or the Yamaha. Kawai ES110- Feel: The ES110’s keys have a noticeably lighter feel compared to a real acoustic piano. The keys are bouncy when released, but not springy. The matte feel of the keys was nice, but not as nice as the FP30. I enjoyed the light hammer-weighted action of this piano. Sound: The piano sound of the ES110 was very real and natural. It was the most similar to an acoustic piano. Yamaha P125- Feel: The P125 has a graded weight feel to the keys like the others, but it didn’t feel like hammer-weighted keys. The keys are finished in shiny plastic. The P125’s action did not feel like the action in an acoustic piano. Sound: Very nice. As good or nearly as good as the Kawai. Casio PX160- Feel: The light hammer action on the PX160 feels similar to the ES110, but without the bounciness. The overall feeling of quality was better than the ES110 and nearly as good as the FP30. Sound: The PX160 has a pleasant piano sound, but it didn’t have the same level of realism as the other 3 brands.
@168grhp6 жыл бұрын
@Shaun I'm glad it was helpful. If acoustic feel is most important, and you like the sound of the FP30, then I would say it's the clear winner. The sound quality is very good, just different from the Kawai.

If you try them both with headphones, you will be shocked at how much better the FP30 sounds.

what the major differences between Roland F-20 and FP-30? they are only $100 bucks different (F-20 $799 - FP-30 $699) I assume that FP-30 is better because it's newer? yet I definitely would like to hear an educated opinion
@jace_Henderson6 жыл бұрын
And if you or your parents still think this is too pricy then the alesis recital exists. Higher quality piano’s are obviously preferable but beginners don’t really care as long as it sounds decent and is cheap. Like right now I have the Alesis for Christmas tomorrow and it’ll do just fine for my practicing needs. I’ll probably buy this on my own in the future when I am an intermediate player. And start saving money for an acoustic.

I recently tried a Roland F140 compared to a Yamaha Arius YDP-143 at a piano store, and to me, the Roland piano sound was a bit more metallic and artificial - the Yamaha one sounded more natural. @Hermit Green The reason yours does not sound as in the video is.... because the sound from the video, depending on how you are listening to it, whether on headphones or better sounding stereo or sound system, is reproducing the full spectrum of that piano. The tiny built in stereo speakers on your console does not.. especially the bass. If that is how you are comparing it.

Why you are not showing us how to switch to strings and others.. what’s the point of this video? To show how good you are as player? How do you switch on those sounds?

One good detail. I tested the video's sound in mono and noticed, that this instrument is mono compatible. Often, Roland pianos are a challenge for sound engineers, that use mono.

Does this have a stereo out?
@energale5 жыл бұрын
Natalie Biesel either of the headphone outs on the front can serve that purpose using a splitter/Y cable

That's the biggest drawback on the FP-30. There's no line out, so it's not very easy to get a good quality recording of the original sound. By using the headphone socket you're having the convert the signal twice, and degrading the quality.

It lacks the stereo out. But I have one and used it on studio. My solution (and I can guarantee it works and sounds AMAZING) was recording it via mono out and two mics on each of the speakers (you'd be really surprised about the quality of those speakers).

Hello, Is there a way to run this keyboard stereo to a mixer? If there is,how?
@kiskadar696 жыл бұрын
Yes. You must use an Y cabel (one stereo jack -> two mono jack).

How was this Fp-30 recorded?? Is this direct recording or air recording?
