It’s like hitting a home run during batting practice

Well, since you asked for ideas for videos, here is one: when I started playing golf in the early 90s, one of my playing partners had a weird club he had made himself. It was a 2 iron, with a 3wood shaft. He did not carry a driver or a fairway wood. He played that monster from tee, and struck it mostly well past the early 90s metalwoods that the rest of us were using. So, the idea for a video - what could you create with todays hollow body driving irons that would replicate that club. Maybe even a 2-iron with a short driver shaft. Could that perform?

Fred Couples liked those irons in another video. My first impression here of the mb was it looked like a Maltby iron. That's a good thing! I'd like to see you try those out on grass, turf interaction/sole grind, different lies , rough..etc etc. I've been foiled by mats at the store. Iron felt great there, once out on real grass the story was drastically different, uh oh!

I agree though I’m not a great tester for that because my turf interaction is minimal with my impact position. #ThinToWin

Sim race car drivers can post amazing lap times, which is certainly a show of ability, and some have showed they have the same talent in reality. BUT there are tiny chaotic variables in reality that even the most powerful of simulators just don't replicate. Hitting a ball that well is testament to your skill, but doesn't really include the little bits of added "luck" needed in reality. Although not far from being real, a simulated HIO should best be bragged about for what it is - virtual reality. Welldone on 2 of them in such a short span of time. That being said - I do like pretty looking irons, and those Betty' MBs are all that!

5 hdcp, higher swing speed, 95 ish with a 7 iron. Hot take, graphite irons and blades are more forgiving for me than my old JPX forged and nippon 120s because of the increase in launch and spin! More spin= more forgiveness

Content idea... head weight vs. shaft weight... so take the Apex Pro iron and change the weights in the head with a light shaft and a heavy shaft. So light head heavy shaft, light head light shaft: then heavy head light shaft, heavy head heavy shaft. May be able to use this in the future🤔

I sneaked onto my course a couple of weeks ago to work on my wedges (we have a short 110 yard par 3) and one of my shots went in the hole from a tee shot. I was testing out my gap wedge but only 2 (of about 12) reached the green so an interesting experiment but kind of suggested play percentages with a PW instead?
@hankwy6 ай бұрын
Would love to see if heavier or larger grips in short iron and wedge affect ball flight and consistency. Looking into jumbomax jmx XS grips in the wedges and pw-9 to slowy hands down. Also looking at the tour version but not sure if the weight difference is a advantage.

Could you do a video of vintage style blades vs modern clubs and why someone might play better with the vintage clubs? I'm trying to parse out why I play better with a set of 1978 Ben Hogan Medallions (with legend 3 shafts) than I do with any of my many sets of modern clubs? Notably my favorite is a set of Maltby TE Forged with DG S300 105g. I suspect it might be the reduced bounce? Everything else seems pretty equal. (Lofts are matched, shaft weights and flexes are close, total weight and swing weight are similar.) Thanks

Hi, love the channel. I have a question/experiment I don't think has much study on. For an iron hosel with the shaft hole that is generally 1.25 inches, what happens if you install the shaft only 1 inch in, or .75 inch? Assuming the overall shaft length is still the same, what happens with a .25 or -.5 space at the bottom of the hole in regards to distance, feel (doing a blind test?), or the risk of the iron coming off?

I don't have a hole in one in either world, but for what it's worth my simulator handicap (E6) is +3.1 whereas real life is closer to -31. Don't know how you'd make a video about it, as it'd take months to test and it seems really hard to define a reasonable baseline, but: I've wondered for a while about having 2 sets of irons, some really forgiving ones for playing and some more communicative ones for practicing. I'm concerned that if I use only forgiving irons they will let me get away with bad strikes long enough to form bad habits which are then a lot of work to eliminate. So I wonder if a two matched sets (same lofts, shafts, swingweight, grips, etc) but one set blade heads to practice with and one set hollow heads to play with would be beneficial.

Congrats on your unreal ace. Imagine you are you are training to be a pilot in a flight simulator. You take off. Are you flying? You might think you are but if you hang up your headphones and climb out of the ‘cockpit’, your feet will be on the ground. So I suggest keeping YOUR feet on the ground and not counting your simulated ace as a hole in one. As a topic, could you do some work on comparing steel verses graphite shafts for irons? Is steel really more accurate? What are the benefits, if any, of a graphite shaft for a slower swing?

Great review, beautiful clubs...I almost hate to research cost/head and ruin it all 🙂. I rate sim HIOs close to little par 3 course HIOs...ratings not closely equivalent to a full nine or 18-hole course HI0. I have several sim HIOs and two short course HIOs (one 80 yard hole and one 110 yard hole...basically the same yardages as approach shots on full courses or a recovery shot from a fat full par 3 tee ball).
@glennwiebe51286 ай бұрын
That's the first sim hole out I've seen. It should always be declared as a "sim hole in one". Almost as good as on course. Almost.

Off topic but can I add weight to a certain place on my driver head to lower spin? How much should I add?

Yes, adding weight low and closer to the face can lower spin. Amount will depend on the golfer.

I don't think the simulator ace "counts". There are so many variables that sim golf takes out. So many stars have to align in real golf for an ace to happen that you could argue it requires more skill.

Nope. Never hit a simulated hole in one. Almost on my Nintendo frisbee golf came close. Can't count or you'd count all the cars you recked on "Need for Speed" or get locked up because you have a high body count in "The Call of Duty" would spend life in prison for grand theft or murder...hmmmm. Since you don't need a signature on the simulator score card like you do in Real Life to calculate a handicap but, as a community now having this conversation can reliably say, its will just be braggin rights with you and your buddies for sure. Unless PGA, USGA, RnA change score keeping.

A simulator "Hole in One" is exactly what it is by definition..... " Simulated" sim·u·lat·ed /ˈsimyəˌlādəd/ adjective manufactured in imitation of some other material. "a simulated leather handbag" (of an emotion) pretended or feigned. "she howled in simulated anguish" imitating the conditions of something, especially as a training exercise. "a simulated emergency landing"
