I remember reading Alastair's short essay on backing Church Warden. It was probably the funniest, most entertaining stories I've ever read. I was sweating and panicking along with him Great interview.

Come Racing! Big Mac got people invested in racing. As much as he became a comedy character it was clear he loved racing and wanted Joe Public to share his passion. None of today's pundits bar possibly Matt Chapman can get that across to the viewer. God bless Big Mac 🙏

Good point about racing being under threat from a risk averse society. First, the nannies will ban or make betting pointless. That will be the end, along with the horror of the alleged cruelty of racing on the part of people who have little compunction about imposing themselves on humans by interfering in their business.

A couple of nice nods to John Mc. over the 4 vids by a brilliant journalist.

There could well be more golden eras in racing journalism. It’s a global sport and I get a lot of joy and excitement from it, and always will. However the period he was talking as his hay day was very special. It can only grow. They need to get betfair to contribute more as they seem to soak up the tight margins of form students straight in their pockets. And on that subject they crash so frequently I wonder if one can trust them.

Have been lucky to grow up looking at Brighton Racecourse, to living near Newbury, enjoying racing from the start of TV coverage to the end (when Channel 4 TV stopped). What there is now is sub standard in comparison despite the fancy graphics, and tea-boy Chamberlain's knowledge lol. Hate the way racing is televised, being about everything except looking at horses, where only 3 or 4 horses are featured per race, which mostly do not win, which makes the whole feature irrelevant. Have enjoyed so many of Mr Down's homages to the stars of racing at their demise, and wonder who will do Mr Downs.
