Horses in handicaps rarely run the same race twice. I've never fathomed how being 1 or 2 pound better off than last time makes any real difference. That may explain why I'm not a professional punter !

it's more that horse will have a rating for their ability say 140 is the rating, race to race there might be factors that led to advantages/disadvantages and rating will be effected therefore creating imbalance in the odds in the future. The pace might have effected them unfairly and might be dropped out or raced on an unsuitable track where the horse hasn't been able to run to its rating. Then in the future you may be able to get a price that is larger than the suggested odds of his previous rating
