These are permanently attached ground handling wheels. There is a bar that goes into a slot, turning it into a crank, and by pushing it down, the rear skids are propped upwards, and the wheels are now on the ground, then by holding designated spots on the tail, the Helicopter's nose can be tilted up and you can pull the Helicopter from the tail into the hanger. Hi, I filmed and posted the video. I used to take lessons in the other 2 locally based Brantly B2B Helicopter's totalling 21 Hours in Type as seen in my other videos and easily searchable. I have the Flight Manual here. The Engine is a Lycoming IVO-360-A1A, Fuel at 91/96 Minimum Octane 100LL Prefered, Idling Speed 900-1000 RPM, Operating Speed 2700-2900 RPM. Take Off is at 16 Inches Manifold and 2800 RPM.

Shakey bakey. What is the deal with the double airfoil blades? do the whole things move or just the red area do cyclic and collective?

The Inboard Blades closest to the Main Rotor Mast Hub are Semi-Rigid on a hinge allowing them to Flap up and down, they also mechanically Feather from Cyclic input to the Swashplate, they are hollow aluminium, piping inbetween comes out the end and a Fully Articulated Outboard Rotor Blade is pinned to, which also Lead-Lags to each side, it is very smooth in flight, but the trade off is there only is a small Driving and Driven Region and it can only Hover maybe 4 feet off the ground before developing into a Settling With Power type condition.

Right. When I took lessons in different Brantly's the Instructor wanted me to remain as close to the ground as possible and we were always taxiing forward, if I drifted up, he'd motion with his hands; 'lower, lower'. I had all my Instruction in the Hughes 300C and Schweizer 300CBi previous to the Brantly, and this wasn't a worry. If the Brantly were to hit the ground hard the Inboard Flapping Hinges could potentially cause the Main Rotor to slap down and take the top off of the canopy!

It is a Brantley, after all. If it was a decent helicopter like a Bell 47, there would have been no lag at all! All joking aside, it is due to how the camera is filming it and the frame speed.

Hi. Often one comes up for sale on Barnstormers. The problem is you can not get new, or any, parts for them. If you were to buy one (and years ago I considered buying one), if it breaks down, and sooner or later it will at least need overhauled, you are out of your total investment, all money you put into it, and no one is going to buy it, unless to strip it for parts to service their own. If you were to learn to fly in a Brantly without any previous helicopter hours to compare it to, you will probably be okay. I had 104 Hours in a Hughes 300C, before getting in a Brantly B2B and it took 21 additional Hours to figure out that it can't Hover above 3 feet without risking or actually getting into Settling With Power, so you need to turn your landing descent into a Shallow Approach, as if you were going to make a Run-On Landing, but come to a hover about 3 feet above the ground. After those 21 Hours it broke down, and I switched to the Robinson R22. In forward flight the B2B has no edges or wind resistance, think of the surface of a basketball its all round, so the B2B is very fast and smooth, more smooth than the R22.
