This is so much more clearer than the audio I have, thanks! I'm gutted that Betty never took up the role, I can only imagine how powerful her ''Last Midnight'' would've been :)

What a wonderful find! Her rendition of Children Will Listen from the Sondheim concert at Carnegie Hall is perfection and my absolute favorite. Thank you Spiderwoman for posting!!!

One of the best channels on KZbin I've seen, along with Goldstone Eggroll and 1971FolliesFan. You guys post some rare and hard to find live show recordings, and I love it. I wonder how you manage to find some of these recordings. And I would love to look through your collection one day.

I know---the lyrics Sondheim discarded are usually better than those retained by other lyricists.

Again, AGAIN Betty played Sondheim's character better, than singer from original cast (no offence to Bernadette Peters, i love her with my hall heart, and she was amazing as the witch)! Thanks for sharing, Aurora!

So Betty did this workshop, then they went to San Diego with Ellen Foley, then Betty did another workshop? And was one of the workshops at Playwrights Horizons? Do you know who the casts were for all these? How do the demos with Maureen Moore and John Cameron Mitchell fit in? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

I 1000% percent agree! WHERE THE HELL DID YOU FIND THIS?!?!?!?
@auroraspiderwoman58864 жыл бұрын
@@SnowCoveredKK I was aware that I had an old 90-minute audio cassette of a "Woods" workshop with Betty. But my recollection was that she didn't sing on it, so I never bothered to dig it out. A recent thread on Broadway World inspired me to seek it out to see if there was anything worth posting from it. And while Betty does indeed have almost nothing to sing here, I found a couple of segments of sufficient interest to be worth putting up. Glad you enjoyed.

As a person familiar with this production, some of the cast and crew found Miss Buckley incredibly difficult to work with, as she was incredibly insecure about this role and her abilities to play this on stage. She needed constant attention and time. A friend said, sincerely, "She was batshit crazy," at the time. Although her talent shines through on this recording, ultimately she was replaced.

No, this is from June 1986. "Into the Woods" arrived on Broadway in the fall of '87.

So here it sounds like the baker was born after Rapunzel and the witch cursed the baker’s family because his father stole from her garden a second time and that he took the magic beans. Also it sounds like stealing the beans didn’t turn her into an old hag but she was just naturally that way and the potion she gave her newfound youth and beauty. That seems less convoluted than what we got.
@bigred84322 жыл бұрын
That’s in no way less convoluted. And the witch losing her beauty is an important plot point
