Although good, I don’t know if I would label this the “definitive performance” of this song. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not as big into Betty Buckley as others. But have you seen the Elaine Stritch version? Drips with subtext. Totally subjective though. 😊

Love her, and what a voice, but she definitely needs a director here....

It was a one-off concert version pulled off at the last minute. I promise you the audience were captivated.

@@aaron01845 yes! Context is everything! Also, it has been said that for this particular song, do you have to be in a certain place in your performance career to pull this off. I’m just saying she passed that point long ago and she’s bringing her story to the situation. I’ll be the first person admit that I’m a fan, so maybe I’m biased, but I like the energy that she brings to it. It’s her personality telling the story.

Don't suppose you have the 'Who's That Woman' from this show? Apparently Anita Dobson was superb?

In fact I do.

Elaine stritch is the definitive version of this song, as well as her renditions of “ladies who lunch” and even “rose’s turn” done at a cabaret.

If Shirley MacLaine can sing this song in "Postcards From The Edge," why can't Betty sing it? Both are good versions.

Sorry, but Elaine Stritch had it for me! Betty Buckley is amazing but Stritch did it with all the dripping cynicism and defiance this song needs.

She said, "I should have gone to an acting school. That seems clear, Still, someone said, "She's sincere," So I'm here." didn't she? 😂

Horrendous. She reminds me of Barbara Harris in the film "Nashville" announcing to the audience she's going to sing a song "with gestures." And she does. So does Buckley - an unfocused, embarrassing mess.

Betty Buckley is one of the greatest vocalists of musical theater. Too bad she's just not much of an actress. So much gesturing, all of it so literal. She should have gone to an acting school, that seems clear.

Betty Buckley is a superb dramatic actress, she is however mostly terrible at comedy. She doesn’t know what to do with this sort of material

I agree. Her voice can't be compared to anyone's. But yeah, she needs some direction here.
