My old-man once told me, his older brother, my uncle Al, had a thing for Betty Hutton, during WW II. Unfortunately, Al was killed somewhere outside Paris in Aug of '44. He was 23. Looking at this video, I can see why she was Al's "Pin-up Girl." Her energy was as immense as her talent. Bob Hope once called her "a vitamin pill with legs!"

ERNESTO RUBIO Agree Ernesto, BUT smart ladies out there. "if you're listen-ing" to quote a certain successor of FDR, reproduce these qualities of Betty, with your own inimitable touches, and you'll have guys like us, faster than a speeding locomotive, after you in a heart beat. Lets not pine too much for the past but with faith look to a future of restored femininity and masculinity. Down with feminism. And masculinism.Two poor hurt substitutes for the real deal. Humility based and not pride based. Vive la difference, and more importantly re the sexes, vive la deference- mutual respect, and real true old fashioned never out of date, love.

My absolute favorite performance of hers. What is sad is that her career lasted about 15 years then she basically disappeared. Later in her life she was discovered working as a housekeeper.
@mrob7510 жыл бұрын
Betty had a really tough life off screen...She really wasn't working as a housekeeper. What really happened is that she became very close to a priest and worked as a cook in the church rectory while receiving counseling and spiritual healing.
@wsddrama87354 жыл бұрын
she wanted a life and found it in her faith and serving her community...nothing wrong with that...and career is just a part of the pie- and often a very hollow part.

Betty unfortunately had a problem with alcohol met priest I don't remember his name he cared about her and she became catholic and was healed and that's when she worked as a cook in the rectory God bless rip Betty

Yes, so "sapphic." Tell me, what do they call baby roosters? That's right... chicks. And the song was written by two men (Paul Francis Webster and Hoagy Carmichael) and they probably just didn't want to screw up the rhyme. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3bLmH-DiN1jpa8

During the war, her hyper style was really perfect, but after the war, people wanted to chill out at a Tiki torch party and get blasted on mai-tais. Funny how everything during the war was at 1.25 or 1.5 normal speed, then the 50's went almost catatonic, then by 1969 we were back to maniacal energy. Always a pendulum swinging.

In the musicals of the 1940s and 1950s, too many vocal numbers were filmed as purely stage performances. The cinema viewer sits in front of it like a theatergoer. Too little editing, too little camera movement. The direction should have detached itself from the atmosphere of the variety show, which could show dances and songs more in a real environment that fits the plot of the story.
