Just watched the the last 30-40 mins. Her escape was absolutely nerve wreaking, she's so incredibly strong. All those people that helped her escape bless every single one of them. That man that saved her and walked her thru the desert alone, such a sweetheart. I hope she life was nothing but kind, full of love, pure bliss after coming home. She deserves nothing but good.

@@Mrs.RodarteIt's on prime right now. Idk how long it will be on there. Oldie but goodie. Sally Field did her thing in this movie. My mom had us watch this on Life-time many moons ago. I'm 41. This woman is so brave. I've always wished her, her daughter, and family peace and love. No one should have to go through this. Idc where you're from. ✨🫶🏾 . Watching this so young has always taught me to never give up my passport. ( to include traveling in the world today as well). Sally Field is such a legend. She's one of my favorites actresses. My friend in Manchester was married to a Saudi senior lecturer at Manchester University. They had 2 boys aged 9 and 7.He arranged for them to go to Saudi for 2 weeks in the long vacation to see his parents. He seemed to be completely westernised. At the last minute I persuaded her not to go.I took the boys to my sisters in Middleton ,while she waited at home in Salford, until he came back from his office at the University. She told him that only he and she were going to Saudi. He shouted at her, grabbed his suitcases and went out of the door to a waiting taxi. She and the boys went to her mother's home near by.Two weeks later she got a phone call .He said " I divorce you" three times. He added ,"I have married a second wife in Saudi, who is now my only wife" My friend found out that he had taken all their assets to Saudi,She had to go to Court to get an English Divorce and the right to sell their home.Amazingly the Court awarded him half the proceeds She had to pay off the mortgage and move in with her mother. All this happened in the 1990s and she has never heard of him from that day to this. It would make a good movie.

I can guarantee you that Betty does NOT regret escaping Iran with her daughter. She was a VERY brave lady, but she HAD to do it. Because it was the ONLY way she and her daughter were going to good out of THAT country They were being held against their will, they BOTH wanted to leave but they were NOT allowed to. It was either stay there and die, or escape/ or die trying to. Either way they were going to die. As it turned out, they succeed in escaping and they both outlived their captor. They were free and together.

This is so sad. As an American, I spent my younger years in Teheran before the revolution. It was a fantastic place, the people were so kind and nice, the food was great, and the country was beautiful. We left before the revolution, so we were lucky. It goes to show you what religion can do to a people. I would love to visit Iran again one day, but never under the present circumstances. I wish the Royal Family would be able to return to Iran and bring peace, prosperity, and kindness back to their country.

I think one of the worst parts is that before they even went to Iran, Betty had secretly investigated her options. She was told that if she and Mahtob didn't go to Iran willingly, Moody might kidnap Mahtob, take her to Iran, and then divorce Betty. And if that happened, Betty would never see Mahtob again. She made the choice to go so that if the worst happened (and it did) at least she would be there with her daughter.

I'm about half way through the book and IDK what she was thinking either. She has a huge part in all of this, marrying this joker in the first place and then going against her own gut feeling and allowing it to happen. Granted, she paid a huge price in getting herself out after months of living like a prisoner. I wouldn't set foot in Iran for anything, let alone during a time like the early 80s with all that crap going on.

It's already a red flag that he dated and married a former patient. To have led to this is insane. my mum was an interpreter in Turkey for ladies from UK who's kids were kidnapped and taken there by their fathers. She was on a TV show about it on itv. It can be a real danger having children with people from ethnicities and backgrounds like this. Everything is fine as long as you get along. If you step out of line you're screwed. Not disimilar to those married to cult members etc.

Betty gave her daughter the biggest gift - her love, her freedom, and to live a own life as a woman without beeing forced in a ugly forced child marriage, honour killing, without any own rights to do and to choose her own style of working, living, clothing - what danger it is for a woman to choose her own way in iran in 2022 shows the example of a young woman - who was murdered a few days ago because she did not wear her tschador "correktly" , she dared to leave a few hairs open under her cover.....beaten to death from iranian police.....can anyone tell me that this is "normal" in any way? Betty took a big risk and I believe without any help she would not have made it back to USA at all
