great video! I found it looking for SU700 stuff. Id like to add that dave smiths evolver has an internal feedback loop. I will need to have a close look at that one. thanks for the Inspiration!

Hey @Skinny, great that you got around to putting this together, and so fast - thank you very much! I like that you used the silence/chaos imagery in the title too, glad you liked it. :-) This has tons of useful information for instance I wasn't sure feedback would work with digital so your comments about this are very valuable. The safety tips are also crucial. If I manage to do make anything usable with feedback I will post here again to let you know.

cool, but youtube will delete your comment if you post a link because of the spam protection, or even not delete but only you will be able to see it. so just say you did something and where to find it. I really like the name (between silence and chaos), it can be a great title for the album for example :) and I can even think of two tracks automatically - first and last tracks of the album should be named silence and chaos, and everything goes in between them. So the "silence" can be just an empty track, and "chaos" - white noise or something 😄 already good album title and two tracks ready 😀 thank you!

I have the su 700 🥰, so much fun with this machine back in the days (early 2000's). Great sound, very nice resonnant filters and some relatively good and surprising FX as well. Stopped using it when encoders died but i recently see you can now replace them for cheap if you can do the soldering job by yourself, and i certainly give it a try soon, glad i never sold it
@SkinnyVampiress9 ай бұрын
yeah I love su700 ;) I also added 50 ohms potentiometer in series with the filament power line, so now I can adjust the brightness. It was too bright for late night jams :) And the display will last longer with reduced filament voltage. I mounted the pot on the back of the unit, on empty slot space. But it should be wire-wound or rated for 2 watts or more.

I was especially fascinated how you described your feed back loop as an effect pedal.I have been trying to find a way to use a signal from a frame drum drum to create a voltage to interfere in a no input set up. I cant abide regular drum beats, I like it when they are in a constant state of evolving flux.I quickly discovered, using the no input mixing approach, the more you try to control things and be "consistent" the more stale the sound becomes. But when I loosened up and stopped being precious, it amazed me what wonderful accidental surprises occur
@SkinnyVampiress2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Drums could benefit a lot from this technique, especially for experimental music. If you want to use some external signal to control no input setup, then maybe you can look at VCA modules or something like that, envelope follower and vca. So VCA will control the amount of feedback or whatever you want, by using the control voltage from the envelope follower. If you are into electronics, then maybe simple photoresistor + LED can do the same.

@silvansky2 жыл бұрын

What is the piece of gear to the right of the SU700? Its looks like some sort of old accounting calculator but I see you using it like it is triggering MIDI events?
@SkinnyVampiress2 жыл бұрын
Hi! it was an old calculator without a PSU, I found it somewhere. But now it is a midi sequencer.. and it has midi keyboard function. I used original display and its drivers from the calculator, only replaced original "cpu" with stm32 microcontroller.. The code is still unfinished though, it is in very experimental alfa version for now :)

i wanna record the no input mixer on my pc how should do it with safety to the components (computer and hears)
@SkinnyVampiress Жыл бұрын
I don't know what kind of audio interface you have, but if you put a guitar pedal in front of it, it will limit the signal to the safe level. You can not really damage the computer with a guitar pedal, even built-in soundcards.
