@@SkinnyVampiress You're giving me good ideas for my Axe FX

@@Whistler-007 Axe FX should be capable of very nice stereo effect chains with analog delay emulations and everything...

Some of these old samplers have some great effects! Sounds super lush.

I think it's Yamaha effects that they use in many of their products.. Very nice effects indeed. I knew a guy who loved Yamaha rack reverbs from the 80/90, he says they are highly underrated.

I’m glad you found a cheap on locally, they always go for big bucks on eBay. Hopefully, I’ll find a cheap one locally one day.

well... firs of all, do you know how limited this machine is? no real sequencer, no chromatic playback even on midi, horrible and slow FDD storage (and only 1.3mb) while SCSI boards can cost more than the sampler itself... hehe. so I won't really recommend this unit, especially for the price they asking for it. And only if you have some hardware knowledge (programming microcontrollers, etc) then you can do some stuff with this machine.

It’s great when equipment forces you to find work arounds.

It is not only great - it is the way to go. Only challenge can make progress. But sometimes it can be too much challenge and no progress as result... so there is a thin line between these two states. I've been on both sides :D

Interesting technique, and the reverb on that SU700 sounds incredible!

canyon reverb is epic for large reverb times
@SkinnyVampiress2 жыл бұрын
kind of... but not really. For my taste it has too much pre-delay and long delays between reflections, sound falls apart too soon. Even if you hi-pass it a lot, it is still not really that interesting as for example "stage" with the same hi-pass settings and the same decay time. I usually compare everything with identical settings and hall or stage just sound more musical, with hp around 25...27 or more.

Never seen the SU700 before, Looks intresting. Great tip about the reverb, will have to use this tip in my next production.Thanks, I subbed to you too.

WOW it sounds really bitcrushed.. I love that VFD screen 👍 Too insane can also be good, if you need sounds for a horror film 😆
@SkinnyVampiress2 жыл бұрын
It sounds bitcrushed because I usually pitch samples +1 or +2 octaves to save some space, and -1 or -2 back when played.. old trick from 80-90s era😀 VFDs are cool, I wish more equipment used them =)

@@SkinnyVampiress Hey, I wanted to share this musician with you. He does mainly ambient stuff with secondhand & DIY (eg: ISD1820 etc) gear, but this is a song he made : kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZenk6SjlNJki5Y Hope you like his channel.

Wow, love for the SU700 ! .. I have one of these I picked up second hand, but never used it because of the sample memory storage. Are you just using the original floppy drive? or have you modified to SD or something? I guess for short samples like this the floppy is usable 🤔
@SkinnyVampiress2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I'm using floppies and I hate them😄 They are just so unreliable... Sometimes I use the trick with pitching the sample +1 or +2 oct up, resample, trim ends.... it becomes 2-4 times shorter = less memory. then I pitch it down of course for playing. It usually works better than reducing the sample rate. And 8 bits all the time, 99% of samples. You just have to normalize them first to 100% or even 110% so you have better signal to noise ratio, then 8 bits are ok. I even do 11.025/8 and +2 oct. which is the worst quality ever, but for some samples it's even cool 😄 And I also made a sequencer for this thing (from old calculator), so I can play samples chromatically. It works with some tricks. You can see it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHLToX16nJ2sp5Y at the end of the video where ambient jam is. BUT anyway...... I think this sampler *_needs_* an SCSI board and SD2SCSI. I wish I had one. Floppy is just... pain in the !@#$%...🙃
@alkalinermusic2 жыл бұрын
@@SkinnyVampiress yea my original plan was to fit a SCSI drive, but I was too lazy haha. Hmm anyway it's good to know some things are possible with the floppies anyway. thanks for the info. I'll dig my SU700 out and blow the dust off. Definitely inspired by your videos :)
@SkinnyVampiress2 жыл бұрын
If you have an SCSI board then get scsi2sd, it's awesome. I once repaired e-mu emulator and owner wanted to install this thing. It's very compact - no problems to fit it inside, completely silent and fast. SCSI drive was noisy as hell, very heavy and with lots of bad sectors already (those drives are very old now)... So with simple SD card he now have almost unlimited sample storage and it's working so well. Yes, a little expensive, but definitely worth it instead of a hard drive. I don't even think about buying a hard drive now 😀
