***** No, anybody who doesn't call this metal are just disillusioned with the thought that for something to be metal it has to be BROOTAL and heavy as balls, completely forgetting that this is what metal sounded like back when it first became a thing... Except production was shit back then.
@rodrigoperez2449 жыл бұрын
Agustin Torres "anybody who doesn't call this metal are just disillusioned with the thought that for something to be metal it has to be BROOTAL and heavy as balls" Not necesarily... I could say that BTBAM is not metal because of their lack of Metal riffs (half of their songs are not very Metal-ish in their riffing, with just random doodles that come from a more Hardcore background). Some of those non-Metal sounding riffs are fuckin' br00tal, but again, brutality or heaviness has nothing to do with a band being metal or not. Enforcer is not brutal nor very heavy, but man, it is an undoubtly 100% metal band (like it or not). Finally, I think that BTBAM IS a Metal band, because I think that their Metal sounding material outweighs everything else, including their new release.
@rodrigoperez2449 жыл бұрын
***** That's friggin' difficult, but I could, It would take a lot of time and I don't want to write that much now. At the end it all comes down to opinion to what's a metal riff, but there are general guidelines, like the fact that metal riffs are far from being pentatonic in nature, because otherwise they would sound like hard rock riffs, guidelines like that. My point was that a "metal riff" is ten times more valid than 'brutality' or 'heaviness' in considering what's metal or not. Some grindcore is heavy and brutal as nuts, but sounds like Hardcore Punk downtuned being played really fast with blastbeats and shrieking, not metal... get it?
@rodrigoperez2449 жыл бұрын
***** It's ok to disagree. I think they have non metal riffs specially in their early material, which was more -core inclined than anything else. For me, their first Prog Metal record would be Colors, even though Alaska is cool and, but it comes off as a prog-ish "metalCORE" record more than an actual Prog Metal record to me, Again, opinions. I would say that King Crimson's Red or some of Rush's 70s material are more or less the first Prog Metal songs.

You teach us what was. You teach us what was out there. You teach us what was. You teach us what was out there. Lift our limbs to focus. We soon drift through the night. The getaway… we drought the cloud of life. A quick escape to velvet. Start to drift in slumber. Smoke fills the velvet room. No more options to cope. A glimpse of the hanging rope. Madness embrace the vault. Cannot wait any longer. A string of lights blink… mesmerize my senses. A pulse that keeps me together for one last time. No more options to cope. A glimpse of the hanging rope. Madness embrace the vault. Cannot wait any longer. A string of lights blink… mesmerize my senses. A pulse that keeps me together for one last time. Lift our limbs to focus. We soon drift through the night. You teach us what was. You teach us what was out there. You teach us what was. You teach us what was out there. Travel through a string of tears. Screams crash down like waves… flushing my mind of a new world. (Afraid to open my eyes) Climb the hill of the wrist… enter oblivion. Oblivion. Foreshadow the Shadow: My last exhale… Knees crash down on… Now rewind. You teach us what was. You teach us what was out there. You teach us what was. You teach us what was out there. Album number seven for Between The Buried And Me sees them take a more organic approach, instead of throwing the kitchen sink at a recording studio - an approach that has done well by them. The new sound points towards the musical magniloquence of Dream Theater whilst maintaining their metallic core. Far more than just a collection of songs Coma Ecliptic is an ever-evolving musical tapestry filled with lush soundscapes and dizzying complexity. Beginning with the grandoise leads of Node and ending in drenching blastbeats and crescendos of Floyd-esque melancholy. Yet again BTBAM have delivered a piece of work that has to be applauded for its sheer ambition and singularity but also cherished for its ability to astound.

empire I wouldn't say they're prog rock now, as much as going from Prog-Death Metal to just straight up Prog Metal. It was slowly coming, but it's not such a drastic change like some bands do. I still feel there may be a song or two with more harsh vocals than cleans. I'm happy for the change, because i prefer Tommy's clean vocals to his harsh now, though his harsh vocals on their first album were god-tier.

Amazing song. They never cease to amaze me. Upon scrolling down the comments and reading some of the typical arguments you'd find on any song from an artist that has changed direction, I've noticed something. The people praising this music tend to have better spelling, grammar, and valid points than the people passing negative judgement on the song after a half of a listen. It's so one sided when comparing the comments. Some of the trolls on this video seem to be clearly lacking education. My guess is that the majority of the people that dislike this song probably can't decipher it.

Wow. I haven't listened to BTBAM in years but they were one of the first heavy bands I ever listened to with The Silent Circus being my first exposure to this band. They have come a long way since then. Most bands from that era have broken up or don't make the same quality of music but these guys are still kicking it.

I think the video is the "Memory Palace" or the "Velvet Room" and each room in it represents one of his past lives throughout the album The toy room could be Dim Ignition The kitchen is Famine Wolf (where they are cannibals) The room with all the papers is the doctor's room in The Ectopic Stroll The dark room with the pictures is Turn On The Darkness, with King Redeem/Queen Serene being represented by the man in the suit (the human race is deformed so he has that thing over his head) I'm not sure about the toy room though.

Can someone explain what the song is about or at least the video? I'm great with music but absolutely suck at interpreting what lyrics or a video mean lol
@Eulenna8 жыл бұрын
According to the Wikipedia page for the album: "The band has stated that the concept of Coma Ecliptic involves a man stuck in a coma, journeying through his past lives. It was added that the man faces a choice to either stay or move on to something better." Perhaps this video, even though it's an early track on the album, demonstrates that choice he makes; killing the weird sack-hooded being, and then (I think) turning off his life support at the end of the video.

Listening to the production on this track is like biting into a really awesome cookie. It's so organic sounding and it's just straight up pleasing to listen to. Of course it takes some solid writing, but it all works together so well.

I'm sure BTBAM fans will love this and their new album like it's their newborn child and hate on me for what I'm about to say, but I've kinda been disappointed with their ever increasing propensity toward the oddly progressive. I've always been aware of them but didn't start listening until shortly before Colors, however Alaska is what turned me on to them. I loved Colors as it seemed like a natural progression from Alaska in terms of heaviness, melody, weirdness, and song writing. Great Misdirect is where I get disappointed with their further journey into being progressive more than heavy. I can't fault them for that, but I've always felt Colors had the perfect balance of metal heaviness, hardcore beginnings, and balanced progressive melodies.
@birdie_mcclure9 жыл бұрын
I can't say I've been disappointed by their other CD's, but I couldn't agree more that Colors has the best balance. Sure, they've progressed in some areas since that CD, but it just went so many more places than anything else they've done
@stripgaga79009 жыл бұрын
Matthew McClure Yeah, I should have made clear in my original comment that I still like them, it's just hard to listen to their cds from Great Misdirect on because of their inherent progressive nature. I like progressive metal, I'm not a huge fan but I'll spin some records from time to time. What I loved about Colors and their past work is that almost each song stands on its own. After great misdirect, emphasis has been put on the progressive nature molding and crafting the whole album into basically one long song rather than a separate parts. I get what what they're doing and that's fine, but when I listen to GMD and on, I feel like I have to listen to the whole cd in sequential order. Colors I can basically start from any point.
@JacobSmith-rg5pb9 жыл бұрын
***** You understand that musically speaking, Colors is a concept album as well? It was meant to seem like one solid piece of music, instead of 8 separate tracks. Every album since has been made the same way, but the concept of each is just more complex. The last 3 releases from them produced some of my all time favorites from them (Fossil Genera, Lay Your Ghosts to Rest, Lunar Wilderness, Astral Body, Extremophile Elite, Disease, Injury, Madness) and I have zero problem listening to them out of context. I'd put all of those songs over just about any song from Colors (except White Walls because, fuck.. It's White Walls). These 2 new songs are great as well, especially this one. The thing I like the most about post-colors BTBAM is that they've gotten a lot better at writing/composing. All the transitions are smoother, it's a lot more coherent. Colors was a bit messy and all over the place, which made it great at the same time, they've just done a bit of maturing. But.. Music is subjective and yada, yada, so it's just my opinion obviously and nobody has to agree with me.
@stripgaga79009 жыл бұрын
Marc Dunn And that's great for that band, I don't listen to their music at all, but I can't help how I feel about BTBAM's music. If I don't particularly like it as much as their other stuff, I just don't. That's it
@TheFissnoc9 жыл бұрын
***** that's alright. I'm sorry you haven't enjoyed their later releases as much. That tends to happen as band progress and change their sound. Some bands I liked years ago have turned to shit in my opinion, and some have gotten even better. I think btbam have vastly improved. Although they have lost some of their heaviness and wild energy, they have become better song writers. Most importantly though, they are for sure making the music they love. Ain't nobody telling btbam what to write. And that makes me happy. Luckily, I love the same stuff they love. You don't, and now I'm done stating the obvious.

Okay, the song is brilliant but the video is just as brilliant. The director's work, the editing, and this guys acting! I don't know how this guy is not a main character in a prime time TV series. I don't know why he reminds me of GRIMM's Dave Guintolli but he seems as good as him. Look at his decision making! Man, BTBAM deserve WAY more credit for this video. It's a great short film, it's pure cinematography. And it doesn't even have 1 million views yet? What a shame. Yet, songs about fat butts have billions of views. How many people without any taste and/or criteria are there, ffs?
