It took me so long to get into BTBAM. In hindsight, I think that this album is such an important piece of metal history. It has been a precursor of so many mutations and prophetic in so many ways. I couldn't believe that it came out in 2007 if it wasn't for the production. It's like they had a time machine and created a synthesis of the music of the 2010's with a good deal more insight, discernment and depth than most of the best artists of that era. Not to mention that they articulated it as a part of a much bigger, coherent whole. Only the crème de la crème of artists are able to create abstract objects of such beauty and complexity, and it takes some work and dedication on the part of the listener to learn to appreciate it.

White Walls is the perfect complement to Selkies: The Endless Obsession. In Selkies, you get that little pause at around 3:50 before it drops into the beautiful soft swelling guitar sweeping solo. In White Walls you get a very similar, but also incredibly brief moment at about 10:45. Instead of lightly inviting you to enjoy the rest of the song, this track goes hard and ends the album on a perfect note for the final minutes. Absolute Perfection

***** I like your taste in music. And while Blackwater Park is one of my all time favorite Opeth songs, I think for a first time listener a different song would be better to recommend. 'Cause people whose first Opeth song is Blackwater Park would think Opeth is purely a death metal band with a small touch of acoustic guitars. If they listen to Hessian Peel, Reverie/Harlequin Forest, a Fair Judgment, Ghost of Perdition, or the Drapery Falls, they would have a better idea of Opeth's range.

Of course going back to classics like this is great but I find that constantly discovering new music of all genres is part of what makes life so amazing. For example, after metal, I went through a huge electronic period (mainly trance). Now I am supremely addicted to post-rock as well as the War On Drugs.

@RyanKaufman10 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't even call them skilled. Around the talent that is their bands, they're decent. But compared to half the high schoolers on here let alone playing in bands no one's heard of, they're not good. They're not bad but not good. And then to compare them to Waggoner... lol
@necrophagistinflames10 жыл бұрын
tbh, I like Waggoner a lot more, he's actually a genius but in terms of lead guitar, Jacky vincent is probably better technique wise, Paul writes way better solos, some of the best solos ever written actually. but there are videos of jacky vincent playing with rusty cooley and he is very capable of keeping up with a lot of what rusty plays, and rusty, along with shawn lane is probably the most incredible technique guitarist of all time. Paul, while still being a technical guitarist, does not really focus on it, he's not about sweeping/string skipping/alternate picking as fast as possible, he just writes incredible solos and music in general. the guy from black veil brides isnt even worth mentioning haha
@MrMetalhead9510 жыл бұрын
Ibanezdan I would beg to differ about Paul not being about sweeping/string skipping/alternate picking at breakneck speeds. Learn some of the leads in Colors and The Great Misdirect and you'll see haha.
@necrophagistinflames10 жыл бұрын
I didnt say that I just said he's not all about technique, or doing it as fast as possible. its like a secondary thing to decorate his music, not the primary focus. anyway its a pointless thing to argue about his music is sick, what does it matter whether he loves technique or not
@MrMetalhead9510 жыл бұрын
