She is mistaking ! a black man can live a normal life only he/she chooses to respect law and rules. I am a white LATINO man and I speak 3 languages. I can say one this " Latinos" get fully discriminated against and put in cages because they looking for a normal life in America. I feel like black Americans want to be put on a "social pedestal" above all races it and that's very wrong. This country was not built only by blacks, but many other races. I have a french "black" good friend and his family came from GHANA. they had to learn 2 languages in order to live there. When I asked him about the riot of BLM, he responded ...my parent immigrated to France to look for a better life and not destroy their history. This tells me that " Africans" are more conscious than black Americans! Too much freedom! now, what happened at the capitol is a totally different history! it is foolishness and glad not to see blacks there.

Interesting. In thinking about it, I think every human being does have something aspect of themselves that makes them a target from a certain point of view. Not just gender and race, but also how much money one has, weight, baldness, illness, etc. I like how Coates is teaching his son to be afraid of the entire world and see others as his enemy because of his race, but just emphasizes on awareness and responsibility of how his son also has aspects about him that can be targets, including his race.

I completely agree! Sometimes we forget that about how we see others. We get caught up in how we ourselves are targets and lose empathy for others in that way. I do think race stands out the most of all, for the simple reason that it cannot be changed and the system was built with a model to target people because of their race. I think Coates approach to educating his son is one many people can learn from. Every approach stems from some aspect of fear, but love needs to remain a part of the approach as well. Thank you for watching and commenting! Peace!
