Onyx is a great racer. A goofy little thing he did that just impressed the heck out of me was getting his hands off the steering wheel when wrecked in the feature. That's an amazing and nano second decision. You did great Team Johnson. Thanks for sharing Zack. Get em in the next one guys.

I'm thinking he got that from me. He's heard me talk about it. After a couple wrecks in the late model I destroyed my shoulders a couple of times and saw several others break their wrists and thumbs, etc. Now I always let go once the front end impact is inevitable.

In races like that, you can tell the kids who practice from the kids who only sit in the car during races. Onyx, you are a very good driver and I can't wait to see what comes next. Focus on getting your consistency down while under pressure (you have a great consistency when at the start, but loose it when you get to the lead cars.) and time your moments. It is easy to over do it in the heat of the race, as you well know. I know it is hard when you have a short race, but be patient and wait for the other driver to make a mistake and provide you with the opening. That is just what it comes down to sometimes, your mistake or theirs. Keep up the good work, and get on to your parents about pushing out these videos faster!!!! Stay safe, and burn that gas!

Onyx, “It’s not about how we fall that matters, it’s how we pick ourselves up that matters”. You have proven this point in the several times I have saw you race. Your cool demeanor behind the wheel and split second corrective actions are the traits of a great dirt racer (ie. Larson, Elliott, Stewart, Gordon) Keep grinding and it will payoff. GReat Racer you got there. I have been to a few NAscar Races here in Phoenix. Remember Every driver has issues with their car and an off day. And others they take the race. Just keep doing what your doing and find that grove for each race and you will do wonderful. #1 thing over winning. Have fun and enjoy what you do. Winning isn't as important as enjoying what you do. Great to see a feature film with Onyx In the title role!👍😀 I certainly hope Onyx can always remember that racing should be fun win or loose. The chance to compete and hang with kids who like to race and learn and grow and... build relationships! Tons of positives! I like Lombardi but I disagree with his view on winning, it’s NOT the only thing! Especially for kids! If Onyx did his best (which I’m sure he did) then there should be no regrets.(Perhaps disappointment but..) There is a next time and all the rewards of this experience. Everyone who played fair and did their best was a winner. I’m certain if he continues to work at his racing, he will one day hold the trophy he desires!! Thanks “dad” for all you did to both record and facilitate this chapter of the family story! God bless you all!

Onyx, watching you here in Scotland UK, and you should be well proud of yourself and you should remember two things! One, if we don't make mistakes, how do we know when we got it wrong, and second, by well known author Stephen Richards, he said “The only time you fail is when you fall down and stay down.” You have the makings of a great driver as you grow and mature and use these experiences to build your skills and knowledge. Good luck.

Damn proud of Onyx & the Johnson Family - when you show up to a national event & immediately run in the top 10 Club where 80% of the racers have the best equipment on the market & only the slightest edge makes the difference the difference & the pressure to win sometimes over rides good driving judgement by others. I say, psych them out & show up with a back up cart & see if your competitors can match your commitment.

To me a big part of cart racing is the learning that takes place. You learn how to get the most out of your car without wrecking, how to pass, and how to deal with the other yahoos out there who may not have learned as much as you have. It seems like there were a lot of yahoos in Menomonie this time around so chalk up whatever happened as a success in that Onyx learned a lot about racing.
