Max Baer was actually a very good actor. I just finished watching all the episodes and he, along with the others really brought that character to life. No one else could ever have played Jethro like he did.

Even as a black kid growing up in tbe segregated south during the 1960s, I watched and laughed with "The Bevetly Hillbillies" and still do some 60 years laterr in reruns, one of the funniest TV shows ever, sadly we will never see this again, a blessed witness.
@cherylbouvier96268 ай бұрын
Buddy is so full of energy. I highly doubt that most people his age couldn’t dance like him. Wonderful actor and dancer. He has credits a mile long. The Beverly hillbillies movie was a good movie so what is weird was buddy Ebson played barnaby jones when Granny came up missing so he was hired to find her. Jim Varney played uncle Jed.

I watched this show as a child in New Zealand in the 60s. Absolutely adored all of them but granny was my favourite. Learned what a gasket was when Ellie May made biscuits and Jethro was so rude about them. All these years later, l still can't buy a gasket OR a biscuit (we call them scones) without a sly grin of remembrance.

he had his own detective show in the 70's which made him a lot of money. I believe it was on CBS and was part of the era of the detective shows on CBS along with many more like Cannon and others. If anyone remembers this era, please list off the CBS detective shows in a reply. That certainly would be appreciated.

The hoity toity didn't always look down their noses at the Clampetts. Two of my favorite episodes feature a genealogist who is fascinated by the Clampetts' simplicity and their historic adherence to the old ways. In fact, in these shows, Mrs. Drysdale is really put in her place. At the end, we learn that the Clampetts are descendants of the first settlers at Jamestown, but Jed denies it, because he just doesn't want all the publicity. But Mrs. Smith-Standish truly liked and appreciated the Clampetts.

The enthusiastic black folks loving The Beverly Hillbillies demonstrates the remarkable power of television, and how black people accept their culture with grace. If I were black in 60’s America, or black anytime, I’d find it hard to enjoy a southern-based show. But i was white born in the 50’s, and the show seemed harmless & silly.
