I can't believe it's been 57 years since I watched this episode. I'm still amused. Buddy Ebsen grew up in my hometown and I didn't even know it until The Beverly Hillbillies had ended. I walked by his house everyday. Before he died, he paid a visit to his old home. The people who lived there said he was a sweet man.

This was one of the first TV comedies tp play on TV when I was a child - and it was in a country in central Africa (then Northern Rhodesia - now Zambia). Extremely popular - even though none of us appreicated the subtle social ironies inherent in the script. Now, 55 years later, watching this brings back memories of an idyllic childhood in the heart of Africa, and a new appreciation of how clever this series was (and is). Great comedy never fades and has universal appeal..

When I was a kid, I saw Mr. Ebsen at a 31 flavors with my folks. My dad told me that Mr. Ebsen deserved to eat his ice cream in peace and for me to leave him alone. I kept sneaking peeks at him and he had the greatest grandfatherly smile. He walked up to us while we were sitting down and my dad immediately apologized for my youthful fascination. Without missing a beat Mr. Ebsen said.; Wellll doggyyyyy, good to see good folks . Are you from these them parts? He stayed in Clampet mode while talking to me. and shook my dads hand and messed up my hair and said he had to go see granny. He was dressed like he came off a golf course other than that he was all Mr. Clampett. Of course now I know how truly talented he was as a dancer as well as actor. look him up on dean, martin show with charles nelson riley . Sometimes no hiding a good soul. There is a rarely if ever printed extra verse to the theme song, to my knowledge only printed with the sheet music once in a book many years ago called "THE TV THEME SONG SING~ALONG SONG BOOK" (1984) by John Javna. ISBN: 312-78215-2 -- It has Lyrics and Music: Paul Henning and a copyright, so I consider this valid. It's not like some songs where additional lyrics or changes to the music occur years later by a third party in order to keep it out of the public domain. I have searched for years to see if anybody has actually ever recorded this verse, but to this day, I'm still unable to find a single version of the song that has included it. It's the third verse of the theme, which makes it the instrumental banjo portion that is left for the spoken credits at the start of each episode. The verse goes: OL' JED BOUGHT A MAN-SION, LAW-DY, IT WAS SWANK NEXT DOOR NEIGH-BOR WAS PRES-'DENT OF THE BANK. LOTSA FOLKS OB-JECT-ED, BUT THE BANK-ER FOUND NO FAULT, 'CAUSE OL' JED'S MIL-LIONS WAS A-LAY-IN THE VAULT CASH, THAT IS! CAPITAL GAINS DEPLE-TION MONEY! I've also tried to figure out if there might be some reason that it may have been omitted because the verse was deemed objectionable, but I can't seem to see any angle there either. I can only assume that it was left out simply because the verse deals more with the Milburn Drysdale character than it does the Clampett's and is sort of a misdirection. 03/23/2020 UPDATE: I've recently bought a book called "The Beverly Hillbillies: From the Small Screen to the Big Screen - The Complete Guide to America's All-Time Favorite Show" by Stephen Cox - ISBN: 0-06-097565-2 (1993) First Ed., This is only the second time I've seen the full theme song lyrics printed in their entirety. Best of all, the author was able to speak with numerous people involved in the production of the show and I finally found an answer to my question about the omission of the third verse. It states: "The third verse of the theme was struck to bob the running time." So now we know. It's as simple as that.

Blood-brother to Gomez Addams in effortlessly-laid-back savoir-faire. To this day, fifty-plus-years later, I still find myself exclaiming "Wooah, dawggie!" -- with Jed's accent -- in response to something that impresses me. Not to mention that upon first hearing (ca. 1963, at age four) "Ol' Earl" (Jed's so-square-he's-hip musician-buddy from back in the hills) playing mountain-music, I was so taken by it that (years later) it prompted me to learn how to play the 5-string banjo Scruggs-style -- me, an urban dam'-yankee born-and-raised! ( ಠ ͜ʖಠ) Wooah, dawggie! Tish, you spoke French!!

A time on television when you and your family could sit down and watch it together. Now everybody and their family who is 100 percent trash, has a show.

Put a smile on my face and made me laugh! I loved to watch that show when I was a kid. Your video brought me back to that great feeling of a care-free childhood. Life was so much simpler then. Thank you!
