Axel went to the "exotic dance establishment" because he wanted to (enjoying the "sights" and bonding with the two BH detectives). The robbery was just a coincidence, but because Axel had the eye for such things, he was quick to react to it.

Detroit Police Inspector Todd was played by a real Detroit police inspector, Gilbert Hill (1931-2016). He said that he didn't yell at people and seldom swore, but the air of authority about him was real. He was spotted and signed for just that reason. I knew he was real when he said, "It's not a request, Axel." He was on Detroit's city council and ran (unsuccessfully) for mayor.

The original draft for Beverly Hills Cop was written with Sylvester Stallone in mind. Stallone turned the Axel Foley role down. That original version was later used for the Stallone film Cobra, from my understanding. Gil Hill who played Inspector Todd was an actual Detroit police inspector at the time he appeared in this and Beverly Hills Cop 2. He basically portrayed himself, except he didn't swear as much off camera. He retired from law enforcement when he was elected to the Detroit City Council in 1989. He left politics a few years later during a political scandal involving the mayor. His final film role was once again as Inspector Todd in Beverly Hills Cop 3 in 1994. Gil quit acting shortly after Beverly Hills Cop 3. He passed away in 2016.

"Before I go, I just want you two to know something, alright? The supercop story... was working. Okay? It was working, and you guys just messed it up. Okay? I'm trying to figure you guys out, but I haven't yet. But it's cool. You fuck up a perfectly good lie." Fun Fact: Film debut of Damon Wayans and Alice Cadogan. Gilbert R. Hill, a real-life Detroit Police Department Homicide Detective, played Inspector Todd. Hill later served as President of the Detroit City Council. Projection Headline Fact: During his tirade at the Beverly Palms Hotel, Axel (Eddie Murphy) pretends to be writing an article called "Michael Jackson: Sitting On Top Of The World" for Rolling Stone magazine. In real life, Playboy ran an Eddie Murphy article with the same "Sitting On Top Of The World" subtitle. Double Assault Fact: The mansion used in the final shootout between Axel (Eddie Murphy) and Maitland (Steven Berkoff), the former Harold Lloyd estate in Beverly Hills, is the same mansion seen in the final shootout between Matrix and Arius in Commando (1985). Coincidentally, both heroes were trying to rescue somebody named Jenny (Lisa Eilbacher) in that mansion in their respective films. What Script Fact: Eddie Murphy, John Ashton, and Judge Reinhold improvised most of their comic lines. Literally hundreds of takes were ruined by cast members, actors, or the director laughing during shooting. During the "super-cops" monologue, Ashton is pinching his face hard and looking down in apparent frustration. He is actually laughing. Reinhold put his hand in his pocket and pinched his thigh really hard, trying to prevent himself from laughing.

Believe it or not. This movie was the highest grossing film of 1984. It beat out Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Gremlins and The Karate Kid. That's how insane Eddie Murphy's star power was at the time. Also, I can't wait for you ladies to react to "Beverly Hills Cop II". It's a great sequel.

The guy that played Eddie's boss, Inspector Todd, in Detroit was a real Detroit Officer, Gilbert Roland Hill. He later became a councilman for Detroit and even ran for Mayor of Detroit. He has brief parts in the 2 sequels. They filmed that rig chase scene over a few days. I can remember hearing they had streets closed for a "film" shooting in Detroit. We didn't find out till later that it was Beverly Hills Cop.

Fun fact: The movie was originally written as a serious action movie for Sly Stallone, he couldn’t do the part so Eddie Murphy took over and improvised most of the comedy in the movie. Due to Eddie taking this role, he couldn’t take the role of Winston, the black ghostbuster. Eddie said he didn’t regret it as it made him the first mainstream black action star, but did say his biggest regret in his career was turning down the Bob Hoskins role in White Framed Roger Rabbit because he didn’t understand the technology.

Sylvester Stallone was originally offered the role of Foley. He was allowed to rewrite the script a bit and changed it to be less funny and more serious. That movie became Cobra. What's also fun is that the police chief (or whatever his title is) in Detroit isn't an actor. He is/was a Detroit detective. Later became a police chief and ran for office or something.

If you do this series, you also need to do 48 Hours 1 and 2. Eddie Murphy is a great comedian. In this movie he has a Browning Hi Power 9mm, which the British SAS has used forever basically. The Pointer Sisters music was fantastic, esp. Neutron Dance! Lisa Eilbacher was really hot and has an interesting history being born in Saudi Arabia to an oil executive. The dynamic between Detroit PD and Hollywod PD is amusing and sad. This was a fun and great movie. I really loved it back in that day for sure.. for sure ... like totally for sure. (80s lingo there)

One of the funniest action comedy movies ever made! Originally, Sylvester Stallone was going to write and star in the movie, as he wanted it to be more darker, violent and action packed without any of the humor. When Paramount executives read the script, it was rejected, and Stallone turned his version of Beverly Hills Cop into the 1986 thriller COBRA.

Of the many fun fats about this movie, one of the biggest is that Eddie Murphy could've been in another movie. At the same time, the script for the original Ghostbusters movie was being written. The role of Winston was written specifically for Eddie Murphy. However, he was already attached to Beverly Hills Cop. While I believe that the original Ghostbusters would've been a much bigger hit with Eddie Murphy, as all 3 of the main actor Ghostbusters actors were Saturday Night Live alum and in the 80s Saturday Night Live alum were doing great in movies, Beverly Hills Cop was the role Eddie Murphy needed to become one of the Saturday Night Live alum that carried a movie.

The reason you see a lot of officers with six shooters, 9mm, or shotguns in older movies is because those were standard issue for cops back then. Prior to the mid-late 90's cops weren't commonly carrying semi-auto rifles, and other high powered weapons. It wasn't really until the North Hollywood Bank Robbery, that cops started getting some more advanced weapons/militarizing (though, part of the militarization was also surplus military equip that the Gov't was like...sure, let's give them an armored APC, why not).

Since Michelle commented on the revolvers and lack of semi-auto pistols in this movie, remember this is prior to the US Military adopting the Beretta 92F (M9), 15 shots in 9mm, which was then featured in many movies thereafter like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. Prior to that the US military sidearm was the semi-auto Colt 1911 dating back to the WWI, which shot .45 ACP and held 7 rounds in the magazine (if it has a spring in it, it's a magazine not a clip). Eddie Murphy had a Browning Hi-Power, designed in 1939 and used by the British SAS. It is in 9mm with a 13 round magazine. The semi-auto handgun Lt. Bogomil shot Victor Maitland with was a Smith & Wesson 639 in stainless steel, also 9mm. Billy was shoot a Colt detective in .38 special that looks to be a 2 inch barrel with 5 shots. This is a "snub nose" revolver and not very accurate at longer distances. Sergeant John Taggart had the more classic police revolver, a model 19 in .357 magnum. Victor Maitland outdid them all with a Smith & Wesson model 629 in .44 magnum, stainless steel.

Most police departments in the US were still using revolvers (.38 Special or .357 Magnum) as their standard issue service weapons until the late 1980's/early 1990's (a few used 1911's), and even when they did start to change over to automatics, detectives and commanders were the last to switch, as usually a small nub-nose revolver was a status symbol of being a detective or supervisor rather than a uniformed patrol officer. The largest department in the US, NYPD, was one of the last to change in the early 1990's.

If you like Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills cop you might like him in 48 hours. This would be a great movie in the theater if they ever released it again. I hope someday you all have a watch party Where are you watch movies with your channel members. Chrissie Mayr used to do that, and it was a blast.

I wanted to tell you about two side characters because they added a lot to the film. Did you know the chief was a real cop for decades. But, when he was giving the producers a tour of the city, it turned out to be a de facto audition. They like him so much, he got the role. And I noticed you found Serge just as funny as I did. Bronson Pinchot's thing was these fake accents he made up. I remember one reactor saying he couldn't put his finger on the locale for the accent. And you can bet most of the interactions between Murphy and Pinchot were improvised. Please do the second movie. it's really good too.

15:30 "Did Axel go to the strip club on purpose or was it a random crime?" Just random. Axel is investigating drug smugglers. Those losers were commuting armed robbery for cash. The drug smuggler ring is a well-run criminal organization; if the boss knew that HIS guys were committing random crimes, he'd get rid of those guys immediately. This is one of those random Hollywood moments: all the random stuff in Hollywood happens to the main character because he's the main character.

Hello Michelle & Natalie The Hot Redhead!🙂You are right Michelle, those big solo red lights on the center of the Detroit Police Cars are pretty old. They also used square white stickers on the door that said Detroit Police. This saved them some money on dressing cars, and made for a starker contrast with the Beverly Hills Police Cars, which were very modern. The head bad guy is Steven Berkoff. He played a Russian bad guy in the 80s films "Rambo: First Blood Part II" (1985) and the James Bond film "Octopussy" (1983). The police chief was in "Robocop" (1987) and "Total Recall" (1990). He was a bad guy in both films. Serge (Bronson Pinchot) was half of the comedy team in the 80s/90s sitcom "Perfect Strangers". The soundtrack was VERY popular from this film. The main instrumental theme is Axel F (Axel Foley). "Beverly Hills Cop II" is definitely worth reacting to. Great reactions to your very first Beverly Hills Cop film, Ladies!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

It was originally written a Sylvester Stallone action film, he later dropped out and Eddie Murphy was cast with most of the comedy being improvised by Murphy. The first film unlike the second and third had dramatic scenes and comedic dialogue, the second and third and more comedic scenes.

Eddie Murphy was up and coming when this movie hit. His star went nova with this one. Originally intended for Sylvester Stallone, it was a quirk of situations, Sly deciding to pass on the project, and a conversation with Eddie that lead to him getting the part. Some.of the funniest parts were improv by Eddie. Just an awesome example of 80's comedy/action. Axel's boss was a real cop. The strip club was unrelated to the main plot. Well, they were in California. You guys do know they don't actually "make contact" in the fight scenes, right? Nothing wrong with a revolver. Spray and pray is for people with poor marksmanship.

The First choice for "Axel" was Sylvester Stallone! He passed on the Role as he wanted less Comedy and more Action. It always bothered me that Axel's arm was by his side when he got shot, but the bullet didn't go through the arm and into Axel's body (even a 9mm could do that). Given the Size of the gun Maitland had, the bullet should've left a big hole through Axel and the wall behind him.
