I felt so bad for Brenda when Stuart was not understanding about Brenda accidentally locking his keys in the car(showing his true colors).

I noticed in one episode during the second season, David lost his best friend Scott due to suicide because he felt he wasn’t cool enough to be part of the gang. David was upset about it of course and he started snapping at Donna and ignore her half the time. Donna confronted David about that. This was when he still had a thing for Kelly at the time.

It's better than a completely stripped car that he could have replaced, too. Stuart was being a jerk and wouldn't let go of Brenda's mistake like she was a child that needed to be scolded with his negativity instead of the woman he was going to marry, Good thing Stuart showed his true colors before Brenda married man, she hardly knew. I don't think the writers ever intended to let them get married. Making him into an insuffeable jerk was their way of writing him out
