Bevy has been on my radar for a few months, but I haven’t used it yet. I feel like I keep hearing about how the way things are done is changing. That is good if things are getting better, but as some new it makes me feel like I have to make sure I don’t start by learning, ‘the old way”, and they run into problems. I like the idea of updated tutorials showing the new best way to do things. Thanks for sharing your content with us and good wishes for the future.

Nothing is fundamentally changing and especially not in a way where old practices would come back to bite you. It's more of API refinement with use. Also for example the "old way" of adding systems now has a nice deprecation warning that tells you exactly what to change.

This is mostly just a "news" piece and some of my thoughts and plans. Good luck on the update and let me know how it goes!

Plenty of cool stuff in this update, but the scheduling update seems the best part. It is so much cleaner and nicer to use, and will really help new devs getting started with Bevy.

Yeah it's great to have such a simple clean API now! Nothing crazy just here's my system and here's when to run it

I noticed in the examples - @2:18 - they insert an AudioBundle component, but then they say that you just query for the AudioSink? Is this a typo in the docs, or something else going on? Nevermind on this. I found it in the source. "When Bevy begins the audio playback, an [`AudioSink`][crate::AudioSink] component will be added to the entity."

That is a bit weird compared to everything else in Bevy. I don't know if I'm a fan of the engine adding components to bundles that aren't explicitly in the bundle at creation but I'll see how it works in practice.

Hey, great video, dude. I really appreciate the detailed documentation rundown. Super waiting your next series to maybe finally jump into Rust development.

Where I'd want to see Bevy in 1 year - OpenXR integration Oh, and Grease Pencil animations in Bevy. An exporter plugin for blender, and a loader/player in Bevy. I definitely love the new scheduling system as well. Easier on the eyes. Another thing. Now that things are getting somewhat stable, getting a Python API will be key (if they are after popularity, which they may or may not be)

I've actually used python with bevy before. I'd recommend putting it into a task on a separate thread but the existing Rust interop libraries worked perfectly fine in a Bevy context

@@logicprojects - oh, that's cool. Didn't know was possible yet. Was this a python app with a referenced Rust library, or a Bevy app calling into Python?

im really considering moving to Bevy, im just a bit unsure since the 3D front seems a bit underdeveloped? i come from the source engine where the world was done in their hammer editor and the logic in C++ / visual studio, im slightly confused on how to do it with Bevy since it doesn't have a world editor / mapping tool. i also found godot but i dont like the non-compiled code since people can just decompile your entire game and steal or change stuff, ive used unreal in the past but i dont want all the bloat they put in nor deal with epics licenses, unity is similar to godot, its C# so its not that hard to decompile. i love that Bevy just uses rust and dont mix things like unreal does with its blueprints/C++ or unity with their visual scripting / js / cs etc. But I do miss visual studio (not code, the other one) and am a bit confused with rust coming from cpp / cs😅 (especially when it comes to setting up the IDE) but it dont seem to bad tbh.

It's still a young engine, the version starts with a 0 for a reason. Once they get an editor and a long term stable version I think things will improve on that front. The engine still says all over it not to start any large projects in it.
