Such an outstanding group,..My Father Bishop James McFarley knew the Dixie Hummingbirds personally. He sponsored these Gospel Generals to minister thru song numerous times in the Central Florida vicinity.

I met Carl Davis in Suffolk, VA in 1994. He told me about his time with the Swan Silvertones and the late Louis Johnson. Down to earth brother and so versatile. He replaced Claude Jeter in the Swans and James Walker in the Birds. Great person; great singer.

Saw Carl Davis sing with the Swan Silvertones in the 1960's. He sang one note as a tenor and it was over. I am sure that those who were there still feel the impact of that one note.

Carl Davis and Paul Owens both came from the Swan Silvertones. However, Paul Owens was with the "Birds" for a short time back in the 40s. He was also an original member of the Nightingales.

Brother Howard was my mentor. He was in Philadelphia. We would talk almost every night on Facebook Messenger. I am a white boy from Toronto. 60 years old now. I turned on Messenger to say goodnight. His family was there. Good people. Howard was gone. NO. F*ck no. NO. I miss you, Howard. So much. In my not humble opinion as an entitled white person -Howard Carrol is the greatest guitar player who ever lived.

Carl Davis...................sang many years with the Florida Robbins..........best known as the replacement for Claude Jeter with the Swan Silvertones........ highlighted for his ability to sing deep bass as well as high tenor.

I did not know that Carl Davis was with the Florida Robbins. Wish I could find some music by them. Howard Carroll and Carl Davis are the only ones left of this group of Dixie Hummingbirds. Yes, Carl Davis has a wide vocal range. I sure do miss the Birds.
