They actually DID do it for money on the weekends. This was how they fed their families, and if you’ve studied what quartet was, it was showmanship. Ira Tucker himself said they had to develop a sound and a SHOW; in order to survive on the road. They did it for God, but it was a show nevertheless; and there’s NOTHING WRONG with thayv

Mr. Carroll, you won't remember me as I was 12 yrs. of age when we met. (1972 in Cape Charles, VA) I played lead guitar for The Eastern Shore Silvertones...... the baddest group on the East (next to the DHs). When the concert was over you took me aside and said to me "you're working too hard; try these chords". I did and became pretty good. You and the DHs will always be my gospel heroes. And to this day, I still sing LORD, I WANT YOU TO HELP ME just the way you all did back in the day. God Bless The Kings of Gospel!!!
