The writing's on the wall. The church is getting away from claiming to be the one truth, or that there is a God of miracles or even that God has one true prophet. It's super subtle but there. It's now, "The church doesn't have a monopoly on truth, we need to promote interfaith." & "Do you have the faith not to be healed?" or "God works on a different timeline and it may be in the next life you get your prayers answered." And I've seen articles by the church calling Russ N not a prophet but a "Global faith leader"? In this age of recording the church is coming to grips that God is very shy.

Remember, Ballard is the guy who prayed about whether or not he should be an Edsel dealer. He claims he was impressed not to, but he did anyway, almost driving his business to ruin. So, one of two things is possible: 1. He is a vessel of revelation, but he's bad at telling if it's from god until longer after the fact. 2. He just had a gut feeling. Either way, I'm not sure we should listen to his live god updates when he can't follow them himself.

Fun fact! Did you know that there's always an earthquake happening, because the plates of the earth are always moving.. Most of them are just so small, that you don't notice them or feel them. There is an earthquake app you can download and it will notify you of an earthquake every time it happens! I used it before, but got rid of it eventually because it got really annoying seeing the notifications pop up all the time. Anyway, why do I bring this up? Because it's so ridiculous that they use these "signs" for the second coming. We went through 2 world wars already and he still hasn't come.

Ballard is just the latest member of the Smith family to be senior leaders in the Church. His grandfathers were apostles. Joseph F. Smith put two of his sons in the Quorum of the Twelve, one of whom was Hyrum Mack Smith aka Ballard’s grandpa. Oh and as both Nelson and Oaks are in the FP, Ballard is Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve. I don't think he will ever be the Prophet, but he's pretty connected.

On the topic of "signs of the last days" when they are just events that happen all the time: we tend to think that events like Pompeii were so so long ago and they will never happen again. They were flukes of the past, but they can and statistically speaking will happen in the future eventually. In a way, the events are happening now/recently and news media does a poor job or reporting/spreading the word.

The book of Revelation is not about the end of the world. Most theologians believe that they were talking about the persecution that early Christians were experiencing around the time that it was written. They did not have freedom of speech or press then, so they used a metaphorical story to explain and offer hope to people because they did believe that Jesus would be returning soon. Also, most people fail to understand the scripture that it is easier for a camel to get through the Eye of a Needle than a rich man to go to Heaven. The Eye of the Needle is a narrow gateway that led into Jerusalem. Due to the way camels are packed (with burdens to either side) one cannot get through the gateway, unless one removes all of the burdens from the camel. So the story isn't suggesting that rich people are "evil", it, rather, suggests, that someone who has more burdens has a more difficult time moving forward and letting go. This is the problem with reading scripture without doing historical and cultural study. The stories were written by people in a specific part of the world who had different understandings of the world than we do now. We can't read it with just our own views in mind, and expect to have the same level of understanding as the original authors intended.

But think about all the prophecies that the "general authorities" HAVE gotten right . . . like . . . well. Like . . . well, there's . . . well. Aaaa . . . oh, I guess they've generally missed the boat on this stuff. But whichever side of any issue you might be on, people tend to believe what they want to believe, and ignore everything else.
