If we never cross paths at Whiteys and no we probably did at the Golden Cue LOL. I still remember when I was in the hospital my brother had to keep reassuring me that he grabbed my cue-stick out of my car. All the things I have adapted to and figured out how to do blind, that’s one I just can’t figure out. I appreciate the great memories you always dig up, thank you sir.

That story hit home. My dad owned a pool hall from my being a kid, to a late teen. I used a $500 cue left with my dad as collateral in a big money match. I was taught by a 75 yr old gentleman. Being young, I was a target of hustlers. They didn't fare so well. My teacher was the Mr. Miyagi of pool.

My GrandFather had a table in his basement and us grandkids would play during the holidays. He once told me: “ no matter how good you are, there will always be someone better than you so don’t let anyone fool you” He was talking about more than about just playing pool. Lesson always stuck with me not to trust anyone trying to take my money!

I was playing foe ten a game in Brighton Beach and beating all comers. Russian dude steps up and he just runs the table. We're going a second game, he breaks, nothing. I said "I 'll bet you $200 you don't get another shot this game." I pull out 2 hundred dollar bills in the light over the table. He borrows some cash off somebody, puts up the money. First shot I sink the 8 ball so I lost but...he didn't get another shot that game. Guy wasn't even mad - I 'm sure he used that hustle.

He'd get a strike just about every time without using the finger holes. He'd show us how to bowl normally; but said it was a bit boring for him. It was a fun PE class. There's was never anyone to beat my grandfather on his table. I met many pool sharks that told me they come over and whip my grandfather with no problem. That's when I'd pull out a $100 slam on the table and say let's go. Most thought it was bullshit but the first guy that ever came over from the pool hall for that hundred found out. He came played 5 games a hundred a game he went home broke beat by a 75 year old man in his basement. End of the night grandpa would split money with me. I played that man for 30 some years and never won a fair game. He won't let me win when I was a kid no way he would as a adult.

Holy shit Rob, a 25 ounce cue ?!?! Why didn't you just use a baseball bat ???? I'd break with a 19 & usually shot with a 17 & on special occasions, had a special 15 oz. I'd use. A guy your size should never need such a heavy cue. Shooting pool is about finesse, not power. But if it works for you, excellent.

I used to frequent the Billiard parlor in my hometown. For some reason, going there to shoot some 8-ball or 9-ball, or even, God forbid, Snooker meant you were an agent of old Slewfoot himself in the eyes of many people! Granted, a lot of the patrons weren't exactly what you'd call, civic leaders or pillars of the community. The closest thing to "Hustlers" we're a couple of Jewish brothers whose Dad owned a clothing store that catered to African American men since the early 60s. The best way to describe it was, "Pimp" clothes. But he had a whole wall from top to bottom of nothing but Chuck Taylor All-Stars in every size and color that Converse made. All in all, them's was some fun times! 🐇is good 🐇is wise
