Does anybody know the difference between a Victorinox Classic and a Victorinox Classic SD? “SD” stands for screwdriver. The latter has a small screwdriver at the tip of the file blade. The former has a nail cleaner, which has a pointed tip. The knock off model shown in this video has a nail cleaner, like the Victorinox Classic.

I remember growing up I had the knockoff version of the climber (the one with the corkscrew, two knives, can openers...etc), and the metal was so bad, fetus me could BEND the metal with my bare hands. I bought my first Vic Climber this week, and it's leagues better than the one in my memory. It will be forever my favourite SAK, as it was the one that stood out in my memories. I also love the heck out of my sd classic. It's beat up but it does the job!

yup it's amazing how bad some of the Knock offs are. Glad you got a good one, it'll be one to hold one to. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

The logo is stamped in, it’s an actual solid peice of metal stamped into the scales

I once had a SAK knock off I bought in the mid 90s that was OK. Not as good as a genuine Wenger or Victorinox but was strong enough that all tools worked properly. Anything made in 2000s seems to be made of tin foil.

Totally agree with everything you said. I picked one up awhile ago because it was on sale for 2 dollars but it only lasted a day before getting thrown in the trash. It was only 2 bucks but that's 2 dollars just wasted. Great video as always.

The one in the video is still laying on the workbench, have no idea what I will do with it...

Especially when you can get a used but good condition little Victorinox like these at a pawn shop for $5. I did a few weeks ago. Nothing wrong with it, just needed a little cleaning.

I bought a swiss army knife from a gift shop that wood burned my name on it in a font I picked out. Used the cork screw once, it bent and won't snap back in. Why? Is it illegal to make a good off brand swiss army knife, but legal when it sucks?

I believe they are stainless steel inlays. At least that's what I saw in the documentary.

The Victorinox shield is actually a metal shield inlaid in the plastic scale.

Great and funny review. I've had my little Classic SD red since around 2000, and it's still excellent. I recently got a Rambler as a shiny new upgrade, and it is in a way. But the scissors don't feel the same in that the spring seems weaker. Maybe the blades need to be worked in a bit more, I don't know. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.
@Zelrick427 жыл бұрын
I don't know, I have several of the 58mm Knives and some have weaker springs than others, you can stretch the spring out a little, but be carefull, it's easy to get it out of alignment. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

Thanks for your reply. I've been using the scissors and they seem to be getting better. Anyway, encouraging news. Cheers.

I have one in my backpack for mountain biking. I don't have to worry that I destroy it after a crash because it's so cheap and I'm not scared to use it for some more heavy duty things like using the blade as a pry bar or the body of the knife as a little hammer. I would never use my Victorinox for things like that.
@Sparks686 жыл бұрын
The backspring being used with a lever on the scissors was borrowed (stolen) from the Wenger Swiss Army Knife scissors (the other Swiss Army Knife company in Switzerland), although the dudes who made the knock-off for Bass Pro didn't do a very good job of stealing Wenger's design.

If it doesn't say Victorinox and have the Victorinox shield on it, I would pass.

I have a much bigger 8 layer knockoff. I think it was $9 shipped and came from Viet Nam. Dandy paper weight. Although the scissors do cut and some of the other tools are so-so, it's pretty pathetic. I guess if you buy this stuff, you deserve what you get. : )
@Zelrick428 жыл бұрын
Too bad the one I have is too small to be a paper weight, thanks for watching.

That's a shame...I got a nice used Wenger for $7 at a pawn shop, still in great condition. Just needed some cleaning. Wenger was about as good as Victorinox. They both have their pros and cons.

The new SAKs use screen printed logos, as well, at least on the large majority of their knives.

how sad such a huge chain like Pass Pro have to stoop to being a knock off.
