I feels so good to be back snowboarding! The ski resorts here in France still won't be open for a while, so in the meantime I need to earn my turns by hiking up. I will be back with snowboard tutorials as soon as I can be. Thanks for being patient during these crazy times.

@@1234andrewjones yeah the whole of france, Spain, Andorra, and Italy are going to be the same. Likely the 20th of Jan. Austria is opening for the 24th of Dec but unless you're already in austria ita not really viable due to quarantines. Switzerland is the only place you can go realistically at the minute, but yeah, its rammed! The idea is that if numbers come down then resorts here will be able to open more normally later in the season.

Heya Malcolm, love the content! Have you bought the Cartels yet? If not just wanted to provide a heads up that the 2021 Cartels are not the same as the previous years'. The 2021 Cartels are 30% glass composite (now same as Mission) while the previous models are 45%. The 2021 Cartels are also absent the b3 gel in the base. If you are wanting to buy something equivalent to the past year's Cartels, you should be getting the new Cartel X instead, which features b3 gel and 45% glass composite.

Ah nice, thanks, I haven't bought them yet but was a little bit confused about the addition of the cartel x as I knew the cartel to be a plenty stiff enough binding anyway! But if they've downgraded the cartel that makes sense now. So I guess I'll go for the cartel x which is essentially the cartel of previous years!

Malcolm, I just saw the new board you'll be riding. I'd never heard of that brand, but it looks interesting. Can you share how you decided on that board? I'm curious as to how it rides. It looks pretty versatile. I'm seeing a rocker-camber-flat profile, with slam back inserts? Any boards it compares to, from the mainstream brands? IIRC, last season you were on one of Ride's pig series, right?

Yeah I was on the warpig before, and although the topsheet on that is a little damaged it is still fine. I also have the salomon dancehaul, which is a slightly more powder focused but still volume shifted board. So I wanted to have a more typical all mtn board. The Benatar One has a slightly wider waist, which will work well for my big feet. Besides from this it follows the formula alot of all mtn, with a slight lean towards powder, follow. Twin shape but directional flex, slightly rockered nose. What looks quite cool about this board though is the slight flat section in the tail, I haven't seen that in many boards before. How much difference it makes I'm not 100%, but as soon as we have more snow out here I'll be testing it for sure! Plus they seem like a cool brand, making sustainable boards, so I thought that I will also have more to talk about when I'm ready to make a review for it!

Hi Malcolm! First of all i wanna say that i really like your videos, they're very informative, so thx for that! I have a quick question for you though. What categories of lenses do you use the most? I recently bought two photocromic masks (2x Julbo CYRIUS), one ranging from category 2 to 4 (Yellow Screen) and one from category 1 to 3 (Red/Pink screen). I live near Aix-en-Provence, so the weather i'll get is most likely going to be the same as you get, but as i've been only once to snow (last March), i don't know if throughout the whole season (on a big range, from start of November to around mid April) a cat 1-3 or a 2-4 would be the more appropriate. Of course we mainly have sun here, but i don't know if it's so often the case in the actual mountain (Just to clarify, i probably won't go as up north as the Alpe d'Huez, nor as high in altitude, and mainly stay in the smaller resorts like Chabanon, further down to the south). I'm planning to do complete days of riding, from 9am to 9pm (so by night, when possible). So what would be your choice, based on your experience, between cat 1-3 Red and 2-4 Yellow? The question ended up not being quick at all XD Anyway, thx for keeping me sane while waiting for being able to snowboard again! :p

Haha, nope not a quick question! Basically I ride with the one lens in 95% of the time. This is your sunny weather lens. Whether that be black or green or whatever depending on style, but it's your cat 1 sunny lens. If it clouds over they still work. I only switch out to a yellow lens if I know it's going to be bad ALL day. If you have a yellow lens in and the sun comes out it's just too bright, so I would rather have a dark lens in for that scenario. But yeah, if its heavily snowing all day I might switch over to a yellow lens. As for night riding a clear lens is ideal, but yellow is the next best thing. If it's not windy or snowing though, and you're not going mach 10, you often don't even need goggles at night. I wouldn't stress too much about it, but your sunny lens is the most important one, I haven't played with the photochromic lenses though so can't say on that front.

@@malcolmmoore Ok, so i guess i could keep my 2-4 (4 being extremely bright) cat mask with yellow lense. It's made for higher levels of luminosity than the red one, so the yellow lense shouldn't burn my eyes (turns into opaque gold) yet it will still help me see in flat lights/low lights/cloudy conditions am i right? Unless i'm still mistaking? XD Anyway, thx for the answer!
