BEWARE! WEIGHING TIM HORTONS PACKS SCAM! Opening 100 Packs From Sealed Box!

Beware of buying packs on the secondary market.
Now that most of the stores are sold out of Tim Hortons Hockey Cards, many people will be posting boxes or packs online. Be careful. If the price seems too good to be true, it likely is. Guys will careful open boxes, weigh packs and then remove the ones that most likely have better cards.
This is one of the most popular and easy to read scams out there.

On release day I bought 30 packs and weighed them all before I opened them got same results. So never buy on eBay guys

Pretty strong evidence with the scale. The clear cuts & trios would appear to be 1 gram heavier. It would have been nice to see a scale that reads more precisely with a decimal like 8.1 or 8.2. That could have explained the missed Leafs trios. To think Tim Hortons released a statement saying they basically corrected this from previous years! lol I have gone through 2.5 boxes worth at random stores and haven’t come across any irregularities, which means I’ve dealt with honest locations. I would love to know what a redemption card weighs? Does it fall in the 9 gram zone? The Gretzky 1 in 12,000 packs probably falls in the 8 gram range, and thankfully wouldn’t be detectable.

all upper deck had to do is make all the inserts little thicker so they match in weight. It's not rocket science. Though i appreciate their R&D into advanced printing techniques and process efficiency to make cool cards like jersey/ auto etc.

I was having really good pack luck early on. And when I'd go get 10 or 20 packs. They'd all be perfectly stacked like the were freshly pulled from a box. The last 20 packs I got where all jumbled and you could tell they had all been handled. And surprise surprise, no trios, no clear cuts. It ran through my mind the employees of Tim's may be measuring the pack thickness. Obviously weighing them is was simpler, and evidently accurate.

It’s kind of hard to control. It’s next to impossible to fully monitor dishonesty. I think they do relatively well. I’m more concerned with the people selling the cards after the fact than I am with Tim’s employees

Thanks for the experement! My son and I have bough 70 packs loose and have yet to get a trio. But we have got phenoms. I wondering if, on a more accurate scale you can detect phenom vs trio.

Buying 70 loose packs won't guarantee a trio. Especially if purchased at different times. You could be one pack off and the next guy in line buys a single pack and gets lucky
