This song came out the day of the super bowl four years ago! We loved it cause it was unapologetically black ✊🏾like you said (points for you lol 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾) with references to the life in New Orleans with the church, bands, the food, neighborhoods, culture, etc., as well as Hurricane Katrina. Beyonce actually has a house in New Orleans. This was in the Lemonade album era where she made her most clear statements about what it means to not only be black, but be a black woman in America. She also performed this at the Super Bowl (and announced her tour that day), which got some fools pissed off 🙄 cause they could not handle the social commetary and political statements both in the performance and the video (like the stop shootingn us at the end). I saw her live at the formation world tour which was absolutely amazing... wonder if you’ll delve into her live performances maybe...🙂 thanks for reacting! This is my favourite video of hers! She addresses what happened with Hurricane Katrina (US government's slow response to it & how the media's racist portrayal of black people), the shooting of unarmed black men by U.S police, the flint water situation (pool being empty) while silmutaneously singing about being unapologetically African-American.
