Bigger is my favorite track on the album. It's very stripped down in terms of production and focuses mostly on vocal delivery and the beautiful lyric that accompanied her masterful vocals.

I agree. Bigger, Spirit, and Otherside are the greatest songs on the album. To me Spirit and Otherside are like I Was Here, and Flaws And All of the new era. While Bigger is probably one of the most original songs she's done since Love On Top, or I Care. It's one of her most vocally challenging tracks if we take in the Harmonies as well. I'm also excited for what she's going to do with Brown Skin Girl live.

I really doubt she's going to hit those lows live. She's most likely going to raise the key if she performs it live. I'm so freaking proud of her for Otherside, Spirit, and Bigger. The only thing Otherside lacked for me was a climax right before those lows which could've been used as an outro. But hopefully she'll rearrange it live.

honestly i think she could do it if she raised the key by 1 semitone or 1 note. 1 G♯2 & multiple A2s or 1 A2 & multiple B♭2s.. i think she could handle those wonderfully

I think the most impressive thing vocally about this album except the lows, is the variety in her chest voice and belts, especially G4-C5 area, they can sound like everything from a lovely, almost whisper to full potency belts. She almost never did that on the main vocal line before in studio.
@taytaybeynippy486

I bet she could've absolutely done that all the way up to Eb5 and gave us a variety of belts. But I'm not going to complain before I hear the live era of this album first. I'm excited for the tour. I just wish she'd post pone it all the until B7 is released.

I honestly wish she’s used the placement she used recording the soundtrack vs the growl that she doesn’t want to step away from. Hearing her voice be so clear was refreshing. I’d love to hear the top of her range more. It’s still there obviously.
@Betweentheraindrops8
@Betweentheraindrops8 5 жыл бұрын
Agreed! She's a master at growling. She has my favorites growls tbh. However, I do wish she'd use it more sparingly. I crave clean vocals from her now, and have for years, especially in her upper belts. I do say this a lot, but I think she should retrain to learn a new approach to her upper belts to preserve her voice. A slight drop in weight in those belts and she'd be gold. She'd probably even gain more agility up there, and gain enough ease to consistently sustain Gs for a few seconds, and most likely even higher with the right approach (think male rock singers). I don't say this to obsess over range, but mostly to preserve her voice. If she could never sing above F5 again, but still sang those Ds, Es, and Fs with insane ease, frequency, and newfound control and unbridled resonance akin to Sohyang unleashing her Bb5s...I'd be thrilled.
@tylerhackner9731
@tylerhackner9731 5 жыл бұрын
Same I agree she has the best supported, pleasant to listen to growls, but even I can say, as someone who listens to Beyoncé, that I would like to hear crystal clear, clean belts from her. Like E5s and F5s. She’s Beyoncé she can do whatever she wants I know, but it’s just a personal preference with me.
@NawiTheCore
@NawiTheCore 5 жыл бұрын
Her voice has deepened quite a bit since the twins, I believe belting as high as she used to is much harder for her. She probably needs as much effort to hit an F5 now as she did hitting a G5 ten years ago. She just needs to use a more head dominant mix for the upper 5th octave notes.
@Betweentheraindrops8
@Betweentheraindrops8 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly. If sopranos like Patti and Sohyang lightened their mixes as they aged, a mezzo whose voice will continue to deepen even more than theirs should lighten her mix too.

Noting the conversations about her range, I think it's a bit of both choice and ability. She is a mezzo, pushing 40, has had two full-term pregnancies, one being multi-birth. And if I have read correctly, Jay Z said she was under so much stress emotionally for years that she's had other miscarriages and even still-births? That is incredibly taxing on her body and her mind. She's gotta be making the conscious choice to not go off vocally because it's not that much of a priority in her life. She knows her fans are ride-or-die, and she could never work again and still make millions every year. She doesn't need anyone, or anything from us. Additionally, she seems to be completely over the radio-friendly Top 40 scene and I am 100% about it. She's experimenting with every musical choice she makes, which will include less of what we're used to from her. She has total freedom to do whatever she wants, without fear or risk of it not paying off. An album could flop, and it'd still not be a drop in the bucket. Shit, if she wants to sing a whole album within one octave she could do it just to pass the time, ease the hive, and make a few million. Now, her technique is sublime. Her ability to support and sustain for elongated phrases and melisma is better than ever, even if not for supporting and sustaining the higher she goes. Her foundation is stronger than ever. That all said, she can definitely manage to sing those notes if she tried. Before anyone gets a bee-sting up their ass, hear me out. I'm a huge fan, I root for her and support her even when I don't like some of the music she creates. While I don't know her personally, I do absolutely believe she could be taking the easy way out of her vocals at times. I also don't downplay her ability to sing those notes. If it's difficult for her, that's more reason for her to retrain in my opinion. We have full blown mezzos decades older than her belting higher than her. We have MALE rock legends and vocal coaches sustaining notes in the upper 5th octave. Argue all you want about whether or not those singers are "belting"; point is, they're still singing these mixed notes with insane volume and ease. Rachelle is another example; she's learned to unlock every part of her voice, even mix up to a F6. Even though not a belt, she still mixed. We have Brendon Urie blasting out connected mixed notes. Belt or not, head placed in mask or not, they're very much connected and powerful. So no, it's definitely not a matter of her not having the physical anatomy to do it; it comes down to how to do it. She could manage to approach the notes differently, do a little less growling (love them, but definitely has become a clutch), and train with any vocal coach worth their salt and lighten the weight to provide more agility up there as well as greater consistency and resonance. She has plenty of "screamed" Gs, As, and even Bs, while unsupported often times were very easy for her. It's all going to come back to the approach. She should be using less air and less effort up there, not more. Honestly, retraining will help preserve her voice. As amazing as the OTR 2 vocals have been, she does sound tired. Even her D5s were sometimes rough sounding when sustained and the vibrato lagged. If she could never belt F#5 and above again, but she could sang those Ds, Es, and Fs doooown repeatedly with similar ease and frequency as she did 15 years ago but with the resonance and support she has now...I'd be happy and feel safe in saying we've got nothing to worry about.

First of all you can't use less air, second of all less effort is a no. Third of all she's screamed a mixed D7, but that's not the point of a belt, Brendon Urie is still young and can belt into the fifth octave but I don't think his voice there would carry without a mic. While Beyoncé has show the ability to project those higher belts without a mic. It's also a difference in style rock singers get away with a lot, because it's the style, Beyoncé uses that style as you said. She's pregnant twice, once with twins, her voice has dropped especially chest voice, but she can definitely regain E5s/F5s which even in 2016 she was reaching with great consistency and ease.
@Gameworks1407
@Gameworks1407 5 жыл бұрын
And out all those belters which ones have had as operatic and poweful of a head voice as Beyoncé? Whitney comes to mind but she belted only until G5/G#5, and her lows were never near Beyoncé's. And you'd find most singers even males struggle to hit full blow G#2 as she did here, so it's not as easy as one might think, especially with that heaviness
@Betweentheraindrops8
@Betweentheraindrops8 5 жыл бұрын
Why would she not be able to use less air and less effort? She shouldn't be muscling her way through to access the upper belts. Brendon is only 5 years younger than Beyoncé...and more importantly he's a man with a much lower voice. My point was that he's able to sing connected mixed notes in the upper fifth octave with total ease. I haven't heard him project in a large venue without a mic, but I have heard him do it on Vine. Much like Beyoncé projected really well in her 1+1 rehearsal for American Idol. But I haven't heard either of them project without a mic in a large venue. She's held the mic incredibly low (down by her waist) but again that's not completely out of range for some mics to pick up some of the sound. Obviously, her resonance is strong enough for the mic to pick up at that level. I'm not taking away from her ability to project because I know she can. But still, as far as I remember she hasn't walked around a stage without a mic. I also haven't seen Brendon do it either, but that wasn't my point anyway. He is only one example of a male blasting upper mixed notes. I also wasn't talking at all about her head voice; the entire point of my comment was about her upper mix because that's what everyone is so focused on. My point is basically exactly what you ended with: she can regain the ability through training and approaching the notes differently. Specifically, with less weight and less muscling her way through it with tons of effort, essentially blowing out her voice. It's not going to be easy, you're right. But if anyone can do it, it's going to be someone as disciplined as her.

That's not true Sasha Fierce had absolutely no actual F5 belts in studio. Self-titled was much more of a vocally challenging album then Sasha Fierce. Lemonade was just a conscious choice of her not go off vocally. This album easily beats Lemonade vocally. And I really don't think her ease has shifted out of the C5-F5 area more then it did during The Formation World tour which was filled with E5s and F5s. OTRII was a recovery period. It's not fair for you to discount her abilities for just one era. Especially with the fact that OTRII had a good amount of 5th octave belts.

Beyonce is a contralto. The type of voice is its pitch (comfortable tone for singing), not timbre. There are contraltoes that sound like sopranos thanks to high-frequency head resonators: Alsou, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Britney Spears. Check your low notes and you will understand what your voice is: women: A3-AЬ3 soprano F3-F#3 mezzo D3-DЬ3 (and below) contralto men: A2-AЬ2 tenor F2-F#2 baritone D2-DЬ2 (and below) bass

@taytaybeynippy486
@taytaybeynippy486 5 жыл бұрын
They're essentially the same thing. But I use H or "Harmony" to describe an underlying vocal layer that usually has no connection to the main layer. While an OU or an "Octave Unison" is a harmony that's usually the exact same main vocal line replicated in the background just in a different note, key, or octave.

I really hate that you included “Before I Let Go” in this video. It has nothing to do with this album. It’s strictly from the “Homecoming” era. I hate that you included “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” as well, it’s not from this album. These two songs just stick out like sore thumbs up when included with “The Gift”. Seems like you added it for the sake of there being more notes for the vocal range of this album.

I know thematically "Before I Let Go" is very far from what The Gift sounds like. But the reason I added them is because they display very important vocal feats that Beyonce didn't showcase on this album, and that many feel she lost or something. The reason why I made this vocal range video specifically wasn't just to showcase the range of this album. But the status of her voice today especially that I personally think it differs allot from what she sounded like during 2017, and early 2018.

TayTay BeyNippy if it’s not on this album, it doesn’t need to be included. If the point of this video was not to showcase the album, it shouldn’t be called a vocal range video for this album. If certain notes weren’t hit on this album, it just is what it is. I’m just saying including those songs throws the video off, and makes it seem like you’re just trying to pad the vocal range with notes.
