By the way, Beyoncé didn't bring the Dixie Chicks by chance. She really wanted to touch a wound (just like she did throughout the Lemonade era). The Dixie's were "cancelled" and banned from the entire country community (radio, TV shows and award shows) after criticizing the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. Beyoncé handpicked them. So it was something very significant. She as a black woman rescuing a genre of black-rooted music that has been whitewashed and bringing a group that was banned for the same country community. They got mad. The performance and all traces of Beyoncé at this awards show were deleted from the CMA networks shortly after the performance and she received many racist attacks. And even with all that, she still gave the CMA the biggest audience in the entire history of the award.

Here's your answer Zee!: - Dixie chicks has been blacklisted from the country music industry for 2 decades following their opposition and critques of George Bush and the Iraq war. Because of how the industry is mainly conservative and patriotic, you can see how this would affect their careers. - Beyonce was getting hated on for many reasons. One was for having the chicks perform with her knowing they were blacklisted, this was a big middle finger to the chauvinists. The second reason was because many didn't percievce beyonce to be a country artist so they didn't believed she belonged there. Also as you know she released lemonade that year, and that album was full with social justice under tones and she was very prominate about her stance with BLM and social justice that year. So racists and back the blue supporters dragged her through the mud and even made death threats to her and her family, they threatened to boycott her and storm her concerts etc. It was terrible, the CMAs even removed this performance from their channel due to the backlash.

Fun fact after this performance they got tons or racist comment and backlash from Beyoncé being there. Most said she didn’t belong there even though black people invented country music. They got so much backlash CMA took the performance down, but then got backlash over that so within 24 hours it was put back up😂

You do know that Daddy's Lessons is off her Lemonade album. The Dixie Chicks loved it so much that they started covering it on their concert tour. When CMA's contacted Beyoncé to ask if she'd perform it at the 50th celebration, Beyoncé had a condition that the Dixie chicks will play it with her. They haven't been invited there since they criticized Bush Jr. for his presidency. They got together and did a pre recording of them doing the song, so right after the show aired, Beyoncé released the sale of it so people could buy and upload it right away. The CMA's b*tched up and took this performance down on their website because too many racists jerks were leaving racists and bigoted comments about her performing country on their show. CMA's said that Beyoncé called them and told them to take it down so they won't cause controversy. I think if they had the balls to put her on the show for ratings....cuz let's face it, if you put her on your show, her fans will watch and your ratings skyrocket, then they should have had her back and the Dixie Chicks. None the less, she got her money and advertisement for new fans that didn't even know about that song. She was paying tribute to her country roots too. Country music was founded in R&B (rhythm and blues), gospel and negro slave songs. But country music listeners today want to ignore that fact and deny it.

Such a great performance! I am a HUGE Chicks fan! (the only country artists I am a big fan of. There are songs here and there I enjoy) And most of Beyonce's music is not my fave but I do not deny her talent and artistry! The Chicks covered this in their concerts and what I heard is that Beyonce demanded if she was going to perform this song at the CMTs it would be with The Chicks who were shunned from country music. Makes me appreciate Beyonce even more!

One of the reasons The Chicks were asked to perform this song was they performed this along with Prince's "Nothin' Compares 2 U" during their MMXVI concert tour. The Chicks swore they would never do the CMAs after the backlash from their views on GWBush, but they received a phone call from Beyoncé asking them to join her doing the song at the CMAs. Country music really threw away it´s best artists! The Chicks are absolutely phenomenal and the fact that people are still holding their grudge against them is so pathetic. People who weren´t even born when all that Bushit happened. They are top artist, songwriters, playing instruments and still so many haters attacking them. I can´t stand it. Also... that part of a song Long Time Gone by The Chicks says: Now they sound tired but they don't sound Haggard, They've got money but they don't have Cash, They got Junior but they don't have Hank... that is awesome middle finger to country music industry and CMAs. Yes it was very controversial!!! I remember it was on the news due to some of the racially stemmed hate she got after the performance. I believe The Dixie Chicks commented on it as well but in her defense which was super sweet of them.
