Dr. Peter Dirks specializes in neurosurgery of infants and children, particularly brain tumour surgery and surgery of blood vessel malformations. His laboratory was the first to identify cancer stem cells in human brain tumours in 2004. In his TED talk, Dr. Dirks talks about the new research in his laboratory at SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

Dr. Dirks saved our daughter's life almost exactly one year ago [Sunday of the March break].... i don't really understand a lot of what he says, but every word is music... we are so thankful for the work he and his colleagues have done to understand pediatric brain tumours....
